Radar ...

I'll anxiously await the name of that coffee shop.

I thought that it would be a simple matter to google 'Coffee Shops Clontaff'.  Buggar me ... a S#@$ load of them, lots with great reviews.

We could wait for a sunny winter's morning (a bit cloudy at the moment) & take a short drive up there for a morning coffee & a picnic lunch on the beach at Suttons beach, home before the afternoon traffic.

I know the area well having lived & worked there for a couple of years in the late 70's.

 Hi Cupie

Neli Coffee Shop, Macdonnell Road, Clontaff.

We will be heading home next week, may swing past to check it out again as it been 18 months to be sure.

Google Neli and read the reviews, still sounds good.

Enjoy.

We have a hand grinder which is pretty good but when our one eventually dies we will get a Porlex one which is a bit smaller in diameter, which is easier to hold.

We use an Aeropress with Able fine filter.

We actually bought from USA, but here is the various items:

Thanks for that.  I saw it on my google search. It looked pretty good too.

Sunny day today & SWMBO wants to go for a drive so we might just go that way.

I got my pot, frother & hand grinder all Bialetti brand, from Alternative Brewing.  They seem to be mainly an on line business/franchise.  Great web site with lots of explanatory videos. Vast range of product to meet any price point.

Very happy with my purchase which is at the budget end but very good Italian quality.

Morning Cupie, Bialetti are a old and respected name in the coffee industry, particularly in Italy.
Alternative Brewing have recently become a sponsor on Coffee Snobs, have not dealt with them so cant comment.

Just in case people have missed it, there is a topic in the 'what's cooking?' thread in relation to coffee:

Well made it to Neli coffee shop on Thursday & well worth the trip it was too.  Started off well with a few coffee plants in the landscaping outside the premises.  Had a good chat to the owner on the subject of coffee as we enjoyed our coffee & muffins .. very good too.  I picked up some recently roasted single origin Forte Nero.  Had a cup tonight .. first impression was highly favourable.

BTW I was quite surprised how busy the main Redcliffe shopping strip was.  On our last trip it was dead/dying.  On Thursday it was thriving & the foreshores were in first class condition.  Had a pleasant  lunch on the lawn near the historic (rebuilt) jetty.

Not too sure about vacuum cleaning but can you advise on the best steam cleaner or other method to clean the bathroom tiles grout.

Only too well, it was the go to coffee in our home, after drinking the stuff for many years I realised there had to be a better alternative, and there most certainly was, it came in the form of espresso, have never looked back.

Just for old times sake.

Vinegar seems to be the go and you can chuck the leftover vinegar on your chips. A house cleaner once told me they use pool acid neat in a cleaned out sauce squeegy bottle and dribble it along the grout lines.

You would also want to be quick to wipe it off again.   Leave it on too long and you,ll be regrouting.

Food Processors "chop" not "grind."    In the process of espresso coffee the Grinder can be said to be the most important part . It is critical to the rest of the process. If the grind is not right (and must be adjustable..), no matter how good the Espresso machine is, the end product will be wrong.  You end up with a "brown drink"  often not very palatable. That is why it is nearly impossible to produce a good coffee/espresso from "pre ground" beans.

Grinding coffee to the right particle size is a difficult job. First, the size varies according to the intended use. If it's too fine, you get mud at the bottom. Too coarse and it does not brew as well. While preground coffee may be more consistent than what you get from a cheap grinder, it has usually lost a lot of the aroma by the time it gets to you.

That being said, I often do buy preground supermarket coffee ... Lavazza is my choice. But the difference with a better bean and self grinding it is quite noticeable.
