Fitzroy Crossing WA caravan park assault.

The screams of two young women being assaulted in a crowded Kimberley caravan park went unanswered as they were bashed by a group of teenagers with a metal chair and had their vehicle taken.

How a night at Fitzroy Crossing left two young travellers bloodied, bruised and frightened (msn.com)

In my opinion, and I speak only for myself

As old as we are, we should stand up against the bully/s and troublemakers, otherwise it will not be worth travelling

Sorry to disagree but, although I would probably be silly enough go out to help, it would be an extremely stupid thing to do under those circumstances. What are a few unorganised old wrinklies in their pyjamas going to achieve except to get their own head bashed in.

Seems as if the immutable laws of bad karma kicked in, albeit a bit late for the two girls at the timr, and they ended up with some good karma too

Back in the 70's -80's when we travelled, I carried a pistol and a rifle, and only one occasion, I drew the pistol to extricate people that were trying to rob from us, out in the bush( and it was the Kimberly's, but not who you think was involved). Even though they say weapons never solve anything, on that night it did. Nothing else would have worked. Today, you as an adult cannot really protect yourself against children, because if you do, it is likely you would be prosecuted, but surely we should be allowed to have mace, the least likely weapon that can cause permanent harm. I can see people living up there, bringing weapons back for protection soon if the law cannot get this problem under control. This same problem is happening in South Africa, and it is very, very bad, but the locals, are allowed to use deadly force. How long before, it starts getting real deadly up there where people are being killed all the time?, before the government acts. If I lived there and had to protect my family from this, I would use deadly force, something that is likely going to happen some time in the near future to someone in the Kimberly's, be that a local or a traveller...

Might want to try it out first, because chances are it won't be effective.

Had a local druggy running amok in Brazil and the locals couldn't settle him down and then he tried to get into our camper with Betty inside - so I sprayed him pretty thoroughly with bear spray. Barely slowed him down.

I think they banned that because people were buying it for self defense. Self defense to day is non existent, but not for me in my own home. I am pretty worried though now, as our shire is putting sewerage in, and my method of disposal of said intruder, has always been the septic tank, I don't know where I am going to put them now.

Police say do not get involved. Call them & take evidence from a safe distance if it is safe to do so.

And that is just so much crap.

I'm currently camped in the bush in Victoria - the nearest police officer would be, at least, 20 minutes drive away and in reality much more probably a couple of hours. Added to that is that there is barely any phone coverage here.

In the bush we make our own law and we take care of ourselves and we'll answer to 12 persons if necessary rather than be carried by them.

This country needs to reassess its position on personal protection.

You could end up with a very expensive legal bill simply to defend yourself at $10+k a day.

Even if you win you most likely still need extremely deep pockets.

And the two young ladies who were beaten up got moved out of the treatment room at Hospital to make way for the injured car robbers...

Even meth heads can't handle in eyes - when six burly boys in blue can't hold them.

When my Dad was in hospital in emergency from one of his many falls.

One night this small girl was brought into emergency. 6 football sizes security guards were lying across her with their weight to hold her down onto the bed.

Eventually the sedative knocked her out.

It was staggering where this energy came from. Frightening stuff.

I was in the hospital the next day to see my Dad still in emergency & happen to see this girl walk out trying to be as invisible as possible. She was a slight little thing.

yes very hard to stand by and take evidence when you know the police won't show up till it is all over . even if you get involved as a witness you could be tied up in the system for a long time ,so you do what you think is the right thing and hope for the best even making your presence known may be enough to defuse the situation and save someone.

For the older would be thieves in Fitzroy Crossing maybe they could put a few signs up in town like...how to turn $40 bucks in to $400...put $40 bucks worth of fuel in your car, and drive to work.

And perhaps the younger ones could try going to school?

First rule in First Aid is your own safety.

You firstly need to assess possible danger to yourself.

You are no good to anyone to give assistance if injured by thugs.

It is often the good Samaritan that will be accountable to any injuries inflicted in defense of others.

The Law can be a Bitch!
