Aussie Bacon.

May be an image of text that says "Made in Australia from at least 18% Australian ingredients Made with pork sourced from Europe"

May be an image of food

There is one in our local deli that claims 3% Australian. Truly disgraceful issue, but apparently "we " will not pay for Australian grown and processed.
Currently buy Bertochi 400 gram prepack, which is 98% Aussie and gives us 4 serves. Also has a good shelf life.

I refuse to buy bacon and normal Australian staples that are not made in Australia.

Aldi is the worst, every shop I do there I have to read the labels, because you never know when they switch suppliers(and they do regularly).

I wonder what the 3% was Australian in that bacon?

Crazy ****...

I assume the 18% would be the labour in packaging (with overseas sourced plastic).

This should be in the joke section as trying to buy Australian these days is a joke...

We buy Barossa fine Foods bacon, Australian pork, excellent product.

One of our local butchers Desmonds Meat Service, Taylor street Kadina smoke their own bacon and hams from locally sourced pork, excellent quality, well worth a visit if passing through.

thanks for the tip Santa. We are usually in the area after the new year, will try the butchers out.

Well that's if they let us into SA in the first place!

Despite consumers' commitment to shopping local, most bacon sold in stores comes from overseas.

From today's ABC, people say they want Aussie bacon but won't pay a premium.

Pretty much says it all.

Same argument as any imports though. Why do we need a $1.50 tee shirt from Bangladesh? sold in K Mart, Big W, etc. We really do not, just another importer getting rich on the back of some sort of misery. Try to read the usually misleading labels and buy Aussie. We now have a bit less bacon so that we can afford Home Grown.
Take note that Ham is also mostly the same imported stuff.

Many years ago I was told by a butcher's company that the only way to guarantee the meat was Australian grown was to see the bone in it. A lot of our pork comes from Canada and apparently our quarantine rules prohibit the import of meats with a bone in.

I also stay clear of frozen vegetables where the packed says packed in New Zealand. Some time ago a TV show did a story on foods from SE Asia being repackaged in NZ and then shipped to Australia.

Safe travels
