One morning I was politely asked to hop off and walk. So along came someone I knew and they stopped and picked me up, dropped me off close to High School.
We had passed the said bus along the way, so as it came past me I gave the driver a big wave.
That afternoon as we got to the turn off from the main highway, the bus driver pulled over and told me to get off again. " you didnt walk far enough this morning Frenchie ! "
He actually was a pretty good bloke, I never had any bad feelings about him. Put up with 40 odd teenagers (some of whom were Catholics) for over 2 hours every day driving a Bedford on some fairly ordinary back roads and did not hold a grudge either.

Like you,Craig,I travelled each day to and from school on an old Bedford bus,but ours was the earler 'K' model. The driver was a local farmer who had driven the bus forever, put up with no spit, but never had an accident, and never harmed a passenger. He was held in high regard in the local farming community, and everybody was gobsmacked when a school inspector asked him to produce his bus driver's licence. Not only did he not have that licence, but he had no licence at all! Ah,the good old days! Cheers.

Love it.

and simply let them be wrong.
The Chev above was very similar to the other Stanley to Smithton bus. If ours was out of service somehow it carried about 70 odd kids, did fair groan and mumble on those days.
