Cleaning awnings

Does anyone have a good tip for cleaning a caravan awning? We have some grubby grey sections which may be mouldy from being damp under a cover.

I clean mine with a long handled broom and a bucket of warm water added to which, depending upon how I feel, is either white vinegar or Safeway floor cleaner. Maybe try some neat white vinegar on a rag for the mouldy sections?

Ditto to Mike: Note it should be done often the protect the vinyl coating on modern awnings, and extend it's life.

Ditto Mike.

I am known as the vinegar kid, I use it in lots of things and over my hot chips.

Our old awning rafters use to mark the vinyl, small amount of vinegar and off the marks come.

Gee. I would have thought vinegar would be a bit harsh on the vinyl.

DON'T use truck wash or it will end up like a shower head.

In our block of units I clean a canvas awning with water, a bit of detergent & bleach, but it is white so bleach is not an issue. Comes up well.

So far I've just used dish wash liquid with a soft broom or mop. A 10 ltr bucket of water and just a good squirt.

Further to my earlier post.

I tried this "sponge" (not normal sponge) damp on the underside of our awning a couple of days ago. Worked wonders. Five year old and looks new again. A bit laborious but well worth it. Definitely recommended.

Mrs says she bought it at Aldi.

We put the awning out, then put the legs under the van so the awning is against the van. Use a mop and bucket of water with a splash of bleach and clean the awning. Roll the awning back up before washing the water and bleach off. Leave for around 10 minutes. Unwind the awning again and squirt the awning with water. Easy peazy!

I actually did mine today. It was filthy. 80% vinegar 20% water sprayed on, rub with foam sponge, hose off. Then washed with mild detergent and water and finished off with Magic Eraser (from Woolies) and its come up like new. Good luck.

Rolled our awning up while it was damp and I had some insects stuck to the ceiling. Forgot all about it till getting ready for our recent trip. So out with the truck wash for the outside and Koh for the inside/ ceiling. Good as new after some scrubbing love the product Koh great overall cleaning product always take a bottle in the caravan.

I have just got a new awning and - on reading the instructions - they recommend wetting top with water and a splash of dish wash, roll up the awning, leave a few hours then hose top and underneath.
