Barbados ditches the Queen

Barbados has " ditched the Queen " , good luck to them and I trust it all goes well. However I hope Australia remains with the status quo,  Why fix it if it aint broke?  I think we have a different history in many ways.

Not sure what will happen when Q E 2 passes on though.

Barbados is now a proud, truly independent nation. Australia should learn from them.

And one day it may develop the maturity to do so.

If we did 'ditch the Queen' would it prevent the debacle we had with the dismissal of Whitlam?

From my recollection it was an essential act. L....r were clearly banana's. I doubt if an appointed by The Prime Minister, President would dismiss his own man.

Can't really see the point of having a President AND a Prime Minister.

To me it is just another mouth at the trough.

Additionally I would personally never support a President elected by parliament as it is too likely to end with a party hack or someone appointed for services rendered, for one of the parties.

I think the US did quite well after ditching the British monarchy.

Now it's time for Australia and Canada to do the same.

https://www.aljazeera.com/opinions/2021/12/17/barbados-told-the-queen-to-take-a-hike-others-should-follow

"Last month, Barbados told the queen, and her coddled princes and princesses, politely, of course, to take a well-deserved hike.

If only Canada and Australia, among many starry-eyed nations, had the will and wisdom to follow its example."
