My father recently caught COVID in an aged care facility. He was double vaxxed with two Pfizer jabs, the last in September 2021. He has a long history of antibiotic resistant pneumonia, which damaged his lungs, and he lies in bed for 23 hours per day, breathing air through a tube. He started coughing early in January and was admitted to hospital a few days later. He coughed for a few nights, but didn't require admission to ICU. His days were mostly event free, and he was discharged after about 10 days.

I visited him at the aged care home on the day before he failed a RAT. He had already been bringing up phlegm, and I cut his fingernails on that day. I immediately self isolated after becoming aware of the RAT result, as I am a full time carer for my mother. Both my mother and I had received our Pfizer boosters just before Christmas (we have been double vaxxed with AZ). Neither of us came down with COVID symptoms, although we may have been asymptomatic. I didn't get tested because I was not officially classified as a close contact as I had only visited my father for 2 hours (4 hours is the close contact definition in an aged care setting).

In summary, I had always thought that COVID would be terminal for my father. Instead I have no doubt that Pfizer's vaccine saved him.

I would like a second & third vaccination, but as I had an adverse reaction to Astrazeneca, entitled to Pfizer due to age, my adverse reaction of tinnitus is not recognised ATAGI.

I do not want to risk the Tinnitus getting worse. Never had it before in my life. I am happy to change vaccine with also a possible risk, but not happy to continue with Astrazeneca.

So my vaccination status is 1st vaccination, or technically putting it... stuffed!

A few days ago our Son & his family arrived home from a 3 week camping holiday at Mallacoota staying in the foreshore camp park.
While they were there they restricted themselves to outdoor activities only, no pub meals, golf club bistro etc The cinema in the community hall wasn't on & all outdoor markets were cancelled.
My daughter-in- law & grand-daughter arrived home feeling a bit ordinary. They both had a RAT test & were both covid positive. The most likely place that they can think of where they caught it was the female amenities block. They're both double vacinnated & OK.

Now I know what it was like. Post first vaccine a tree full of cicadas 24 hours a day in my head. I can see why people turn off the problem permanently.

My daughter rang tonight, our grand children have Omicron as well as herself, luckily, or unluckily, my son in/law, is down here, has been for 9 days, he hasn't got it, but it his first holiday from work in 2.5 years. She wants him home to help, but he is worried if he goes home, he will get, it, and they will be put in a worst position, but he wants to go home. I talked to my daughter, to get her to understand, that it would be better if he doesn't get it, and stays a little while longer. The children have not been able to get the vaccine, as Like most of the areas in Australia, have not got access to it. The parents are tripple vaxed, so theirs that, I suppose. If anything happens to them, ie; the worst possible thing to happen, and I will hold the Liberal Government responsible for it. They are responsible for it coming here already, and causing all the trouble and injuries, deaths that has happened  so far. I wish they would just own up to it, but they are too gutless to care.

My nephews three kids have just returned from a camping trip and all three tested positive upon return. They were a bit crook for a day or so but are now ok. I know each case is different Bicyclecamper but kids are resilient little buggers so I hope all goes well for them.

Our 17 yo granddaughter has been diagnosed with Omicron. Her mum reports to us that the symptoms are similar as the flu and it has only lasted for a few days. The little girl was fully vaccinated.

A little off topic!

Just heard on the news this morning.

A new variety of Covid is now in Australia.

It is known as *The Son of Omicron.*

It is reported to be similar to Omicron but apparently it cant be diagnosed by a RAT test.

God spare is all.

whenarewethere...Tinnitus is pretty common, but most of us suffering from it don't talk about it...it is only when some one brings it up that most of the hands in the room go up.

I suffer pretty badly from it, no doubt from my years as a sound manager with a heavy rock band back in the 70's. Make it louder was the call...lol. But I ignore it as it is always there, squealing away, and there is nothing I can do about it.

Anyway, I have known a number of people where they appear to suddenly be affected by it through anything from a bad cold to, as you have noted, an injection of some sort. in most cases these sudden onsets seem to fade after a while for most people.

I actually envy people that can "sit in silence" and enjoy surroundings...

As you say HtR, I wonder what it is like sitting in total quiet. There are times I would just like to experience it for 10 minutes, especially in the Outback at dusk.

That said, it is generally in the background without any conscious noticing of it. You do get used to it and it really is a minor inconvenience in the scheme of things.

WaWT, I would seriously consider getting the rest of your shots.

Covid can kill, Tinnitus cannot!

I'm pretty sure that listening to Deep Purple, the loudest band in the world at the time, at the Horden Pavilion caused my Tinnitus (my ears were ringing until the day). That, or shooting without ear protection. The only protection one used in those days was a hat.

I've heard that some hearing aids can counteract Tinnitus.

Not according to my cook Buzz, she has had 2 different types, no reduction at all.
There is some mob advertise in NRMA, claim listening to low volume classical music somehow works. I could not stand the thought of a Brahms Lullaby.

We have a nice hi-fi, still using a pair of Wharfedale E50 speakers bought in the late 1970s. One of the drivers needed repairing recently, all good again. Actually these old E series speakers get better with age. Our current car has a pretty good system. Even had a KEF 200 system with subwoofers & a few amps in a Peugeot 504, with the first car CD player available, cost a fortune back then, mounted under the roof. Always after quality rather than volume.

AAHH..the good ole Peugeot 504.....My wife had a 74 504GL when I met her....and it was our only car for a few years...loved it !! I did have a HQ 4 door Monaro GTS as well...but ....apart from the sheer presence of the GTS ....the 504 was a better car. Sold it and bought a 505 STI in 1990 S/Hand....kept until late 2018 and sold it with 765,000 k on it .

Memories....

Cheers  Keith

It's lucky then that I bought the cheapest hearing aids I could find and just put up with the hisses.

Mine only got to +250,000km, odometer broke. As it was parked in an ocean environment rust was not worth it after 25 years.

I added air conditioning, electronic ignition, rear air shocks & onboard air compressor, fridge.
