Sad news

Just heard of the passing of Rod Marsh.

He apparently suffered a heart attack last week of which he could not recover.

We all thank him for a marvellous cricket career

RIP Rod Marsh

Very sad news indeed. A tremendous player and a terrific person and character. I never did understand why they did not select him as captain when Greg Chappell retired as I am sure he would have remained in the game a lot longer.

I remember he was an integral member of the Cricket Academy in South Australia and would take teams around Australia to play matches against country teams. He brought a team to Newcastle and whilst there, he and several others of the coaching staff, called in to a local pub I was in at the time, completely unannounced. He took the time to chat with anyone who approached him and told great yarns about touring, funny moments and players he admired. He was there for quite a while and left with a grin and a wave of the hand, telling everyone to make sure they attended the upcoming match and check out Australia's future talent.

He will be missed, not only as a cricketer but as a great Australian.

Well no one would have picked what was to happen overnight last night.

Two great cricketers and Aussie sportsmen gone within a week.

RIP Shane Warne.

It brings a whole new view on what was such a common phrase in sport.
