3-Way Fridge Fire Waiting to Happen!

Hi Nomads,

Have you ever removed the grill to expose the rear of your 3-way fridge?

Well I had reason to today on a relatively new 9 month old 21'6" van only to find the 240 volt cable running from an internal cupboard was resting against the flu.

Fortunately for us we have not used the fridge on gas as yet.  To make things worse, there was quite a bit of saw dust from the surrounding wood that was cut to accommodate the 3-way Thetford sitting in the same well!

Naturally I used cable ties to hold the 240v lead away from the flu, and did likewise with the 12 volt cable in the same cavity running from the 12-pin plug attached to the caravan.

I imagine we could have had a fire if the 240v lead had melted, or at the least we would have had a very good short!

So pleased I stumbled across this and thought it may be worthwhile raising it in this forum for others to ponder or explore their own van.

All the best ...

Yes, we had a240v lead near the flu. Wrapped in fire blanket material (fibre glass) now.

Piss poor manufacturing.

Terrible quality control. Who is the van manufacturer so others can check their installations?
