I was preparing a post in reply to yobarr and Ivan in a topic which Dougwe started regarding a truck.
As quite often happens the topic went way off the original topic which Dougwe had indicated in a post he wasnt worried about but when I went to post the whole lot was gone.
Is this a new policy when a topic strays then it is deleted?

This will be interesting.
Yeah Clarky. Seems you are right although it was still there earlier today when I wrote and asked Doug about the GVM of his new truck. Cheers

Well yobarr I better get in quick before some self righteous sole needs to have this tit bit of info deleted.
I was to believe that those Spicer boxes were different. I think some from the US came into Aus and were different to the boxes they fitted in the Aussie trucks.
The KW I drove had been re rated for B Double use. B Doubles were in their infancy when it was done.
I think the owner at the time got a gearbox from the US.
There was a lot of Cheap US truck bits brought into Aus in containers through Darwin. You could get all sorts of parts and there was no need to ask questions apparently.
There was a story that those Spicer gearboxes were built with different gear ratios in the US to suit different engines. I guess they might be different ratios behind a screaming GM as opposed to maybe a Cummins or a Cat.
I think at about that time the 92 series were Replacing the old 71 series screaming chicken scarers so needed gearing that suited the lower torque
I dont know much more about them unfortunately.
I am glad I retired.
From talking to mates who are still steering it is just getting harder and harder although all they have to do these days is drive. Most employers dont want you to know how all those computers work.
On another subject I wont be on here as much when I am on the move as I am basically packed up and ready to roll heading inland from Mackay (sSarina) and then up to Winton and beyond. I will poke along steady and hope the black soul dries out as I go. Who knows I may even meet Bulb Lighbuzz up around Winton. Apparently he has been up around there playing camping and caravanning.

All good Stu. Make sure that you visit the truck museum at Winton. Lots of trucks from our era, with dozens more out the back waiting for restoration when money becomes available. Toots Holzheimers MAN is there too.Cheers
GLEESON TRUCKS , they brought in more trucks than you could count all used trucks driven to the wharf in the USA chassis cut pushed in container shipped as second hand spare parts to their yard in caringbah nsw no taxes from what i was told .
you are starting to revive memories that are stored in old files
Was there a punch up in Dougwes truck topic.? NEW RIG wasnt it.?
I thought there was some interesting observations. Mainly light hearted conversation from what I saw before I clocked off late this morning.
One of the bits of lost info was in the post relating to the numpty that went through the road closed signs up on the Tilpa Rd and got bogged or flooded in.
Oh well I am not typing all that info again.
I do see that a few more topics went today. The big broom was introduced apparently. It swept up all the broken glass.
I might have to start copying posts I type and links to information given and filing my own information for future use.
At least I still have my memes.
Thanks Stu Clarky for giving us the finishing details of our conversation. I do remember a lot of yankee truck bits being available back then.
Hi dogbox I remember the name Gleesons but I thought they did truck bodies. My old memory is probably failing me.
I heard a rumour once that all sorts of *other* gear came in hidden in truck parts, Didnt they find g un s in with diff assemblies once.
Coulda been just another tall story.
Oh well I will get a chair and put my feet up for the night shift.
Hey Clarky travel safe, no going around road closed signs out there in the Wild West.
