Solution to slow down these expenses is simple:
REMOVE at least one layer of government.
Yes I know the famous Constitution.
That aside, what if we were to have ONE government body running
the country. Remove all state and territory governments.
This gets rid of at least one duplication. Remove one duplication
and you lower the expense.
There is absolutely no reason as to why Australia cannot be governed
by a body who probably be based in Canberra with representatives
in what we know to be states and territory.
I ran this past some official at Parliament House in Canberra.
The bird brain promptly told me to start my own party to which I
replied he should remove his head out of his anal orifice, see the
light and smell the roses.
No further discussion was entertained.

Why would you say that???? No changes to the way a leader is elected - democratic process.

Checks and balanced put in place to prevent a Ping Pong or Putin or Kim what's his face

from happening.

Just an idea to start as a building block.

Do you have any ideas or just negative contribution???

There is a well known quotation by James Madison that is relevant.

The truth is that all men having power ought to be mistrusted.

Separation of power is a cornerstone of a good democracy. Dividing the powers and responsibilities amongst the different levels of government helps to avoid any one entity having ultimate power. With ultimate power, it is too easy to become a dictatorship.

Removing or adding an elected tier of government won't alter separation of powers as they are referenced under the Australian Constitution because it means separation of legislative, executive and judicial branches not layers of elected government tiers.

For many years it was Labor Party policy to remove state governments, moving some powers to the Federal government and others to constitutionally recognized local governments (it still might be). Still have two tiers but one is much larger and the other is much smaller.

However we a Federation of states not one country divided into states and we can't even accept the need to officially recognize our LGA let alone rework our entire constitution.

not that i would have much of any idea how things would finish up but if it was the start of a reform package once it starts where does it stop ?

as far as leaders go , IF we have a prime minister and he wants to be the minister for everything , did we elect him , not really we elected the party then the party elected him to be our leader .

similar question when we discuss a republic how will we get a head of state, will we elect one or will one be appointed ,an by who?

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for your input, however I think I will close this now. Just a reminder that we do not allow political discussions on our forum. Thanks.
