Greens Flood Latest

Water flowing into Greens...

Water level now at Boat ramp and rising...

Keep the water coming in... Summer will be great!

May be an image of outdoors

May be an image of body of water

I don't think there will be too many water shortages in the coming months anywhere in the Eastern States.

I have never been to Greens Lake but intend to go and have a look during my travels in the next few months.

With all the heavy rainfall and runoff I expect it will increase greatly in capacity. Tell me, does water get pumped out of the lake and that is the cause of previous low level or was it just a case of evaporation and little replenishment that caused the low level?  If it regains max or near to max capacity now, will it stay that way or will it be pumped somewhere else.

No, they have simply stopped putting water into the lake. What gets in now is due only to weather events.

Yes it is probably getting water.

No it probably will not continue in the future and Greens Lake will eventually end up like Lake Cooper, mostly an empty dry "claypan" when the next cycle of dry weather occurs.

Typically GMW waste money improving basic facilities, then shortly after announce that no additional water is to be put into the lake,

Personally I really cannot understand the attraction, other that it is FREE to camp there. To me though, there are much nicer and far more private places to "free camp".

Latest Update...Monday 24 October.

Water still rising and should be near full for summer. Currently at over 60%.

Chances are, also, the Lake Cooper discharge channel will flow water into Greens as will the local swamps.

I agree.

And at weekends stacks of locals arrive with boats, jet skis music, beer, uncontrolled kids and a general disregard for other campers.

I stayed there for 10 days and I'll not return.

Those new bollards will only be a short mosquito flight from the water if it gets any higher. biggrin

The lake is nearly at the full level and full shoreline.

GMW capacity level notification may be a bit behind?

We find the place sort of depressing, much like other large extremely popular Grey Nomad haunts.
There's nothing there of interest whatsoever.
Its free & you can stay there for ages but what do you do, watch TV & drink?
It looks worse now with all the bollards.
We used the dump point a few weeks ago but didn't stay.
We stayed there for 10 days in 2016, full of bogans with ski boats & monkey bikes.
Each to there own I suppose, enjoy.

Happy hours have always been great at Greens. Many a Grey Nomad has frequented the Lake in the Summer months.

Several years ago when the lake remained full a count of over 300 vans/camps/rv's was normal during Summer school holidays.

I never regarded boaties as Bogans and Greens attracted many family groups from around the State and local towns.

Several historic towns close by to discover if so inclined and an abundance of wineries. Lots to see and do in the Region.

With up to date amenities of hot showers/flushing toilets/dump point and electric bbq's, all free for 362 days of the year, it's a win/win for everyone.

As you say, though, each his own.

I camped there for about a week in 2011, those that were there basically friendly just a little to "clicky", for me.

Batyo Catyo was a much more pleasant stay, although nothing other than Carp was caught.
