I'm predominantly a wine drinker but on a hot day I do enjoy the occasional beer.
I like the Great Northern because its a pilsener type of brew, not too heavy.
I also enjoy the Coopers 3.5% lighter beer.
XXXX Gold would be my next choice.
The other beer that I like is Prickly Moses Otway Light.

When I was part of the crew building airstrip upgrade at Learmonth and live in Exmouth, your choices were Black Duck or Bush Chook at the Pot Shot Pub and the boozer at the construction camp, generally because Black Duck was just drinkable and emu was brewed from the bottom of a piss trough, I drank Bundy or Bacardi.
I'm not much of a drinker but don't mind a 150 Lashes Pale Ale, or a Coopers Green or Orange once in a while. If we took Pale Ale out of the equation my choice would be Great Northern.
Real ale is probably the only thing I miss about the UK.

Now It's either GN Crisp or Carlton Dry.
It's an acquired taste Gundog, ....only beer that you can buy a cold carton of and put in the boot of the car and drink till they are Kimberley Kool, no ice needed. (in our younger days )
No hangovers either, Swan was ok, Emu Bitter was good till they changed the recipe to lower the alcohol content and avoid a bit of tax.
Personally, Bundaberg Ginger Beer is my choice - As a person who is a "non-drinker" I believe all these surveys and such are a deceptive form of marketing.

Your honesty is to be commended.
The breweries actually *buy* meaning pay a lease on any beer tap in most pubs. The result of this warped figures as when any punter walks into a pub for a beer they are served what is available and not what might be classed as a good beer.
Try drinking in a microbrewery pub where proper beers are served.

We love the low calorie Bunderburg Ginger Beer, very refreshing. Its probably the only reason that we'd go into an Aldi supermarket.

On our recent 10 week trip around Qld I was surprised to see just how much Great Northern seems to have taken over from XXXX as the main beer up that way. I drink Great Northern Super Crisp anyhow so it didnt really worry me. My favourite beer is Carling Black Label from South Africa and although I have found a few places where I can buy Castle Lager here I havent been able to find Carling. What a pleasant surprise we actually came across a South African restaurant on the waterfront in Hervey Bay and I got my favourite peri peri chicken along with a Black Label. I am not South African but having lived in both Mozambique and South Africa for over 3 years I really developed a taste for the beer (and the food). Probably got hooked on their prices as well a carton of 500ml cans would only cost me arond $A20 - the government in this country is absolutely fleecing people with their taxes on alcohol. We also lived in the Karratha for 2 years back in the late 70s when we first got married I can remember quite a few hangovers as the result of consuming too much Emu Lager (wasnt much else to do up there in those days)...

Unfortunately when the mega breweries *aquire* a popular craft beer the brewing is immediately taken out of the hands of the experienced brewers and the procedure becomes controlled by *bean counters*
The beer is brewed to a price from that day on.
Your mention of Little Creatures is a classic example of a really great Australian beer being dumbed down so far in the hands of LN and subsequently Kirin that it is a very poor example of its original style.
The same is for Fat Yak in the hands of CUB from memory. Last time I tried it, it was terrible.
With the brewing notes in your link above it appears that the brewing process was at fault as t(e comments were mainly to tip beers down the sink.
I would hope that they werent full volume batches as the cost could be enormous to have to tip them out.
A wild infection is usually the cause of tipping it down the drain.
