So true.

There were pics on one of these forums a few years ago of the rubbish left laying around the skip bins at GL.

I am not sure but the size and number of bins looked inadequate but that offers no excuse for campers not to take their rubbish with them.

There was a time at GreenS Lake adequate bins were made available just prior to the Xmas rush period but many locals would come out with trailer loads of rubbish and fill them up. GV Water would empty them every week and every week the locals did the same thing. They got caught out in the end.

This photo was taken back in February 2013 just prior the Xmas rush. Check out the wire area in front of bins. It was used as an overflow until the truck arrived to empty.

The good old days at GreenS Lake.

Thank you for the clarification and now you have prompted my memory the rubbish was the action of locals as I think you had stated before.

It is a shame that now the authority is claiming the rubbish is being left there by campers.

It appears that they are making it harder and harder for those to camp but not so if in fact it is campers that are now leaving the rubbish.

In the end it will not matter who is leaving the rubbish, it will become "is it worth maintaining the site". More bins bigger bins only attract Imbeciles.
Maybe cameras in surrounding trees they wouldn't need to be real just look the part, just advertise them as illegal dumping cameras or wildlife cameras.
A lot of the campers probably fall into this last category.
Or charge a small fee and have caretakers on site.

Or just remove the bins altogether?

I've currently been camped in the forest for nine weeks and have somehow managed to do that without discarding a single piece of waste or litter in the forest.

It's not hard.

I believe that all GMW have been "officially" limited to 7 day stays for quite a number of years but this has never been really enforced in most areas.

I had to fill in a day today so decided to go for a drive and found myself driving through the gates at GreenS Lake. It was like the car was on auto pilot.

Probably only about a dozen campers there and no rubbish around. In fact, it looked nice and tidy. The lake was like the good old days of up near the top of the ramp and looking very inviting indeed. I did a very slow drive along what we all called lakeside drive and sadly didn't see anyone I knew. It was very dry, hot and dusty also.

I also noticed as I entered through the gates out front the back road was covered with water so that Eastern end of the lake was full also. Not often I have seen that.

I had a good look around and at all signs and not one mention of a 7-day maximum stay. It does say it on the Wb site though but as mentioned by Sarco Harris, it has said that for many years but never policed. I also noticed they still close the place down from 30/12 to 1/1 each year.

GMW are issuing individual written notices to campers regarding the 7 day rule. The longer stay campers have been ordered to leave.

The rubbish that is being left behind is mainly damaged camp chairs and damaged marquees and other hard rubbish primarily left by local weekend campers.

I have never seen grey nomads leave any rubbish at Greens. But that is irrelevant to GMW who make these decisions from an office environment.

The large rubbish bins were removed pre covid.

Places that retirees like to enjoy camping at long term like Greens Lake seem to be disappearing in recent years.

Other spots that come to mind in Victoria are Green Lake near Ararat & Meredith Park on Lake Colac.

You can camp at them for a while but not semi permanently.

Unfortunately these places also attract a yobbo element.

The last time that we camped at Greens Lake it was Cup Weekend, I nearly got run over by a DH on a monkey bike on his way to the dunnies.

I agree that most of the rubbish was left behind by weekend warriors.

You are spot on there 86. I have spent quite a few minutes, OK then, hours, OH! alright, days at GreenS Lake and have enjoyed all of them. You are also right with the rubbish and also the visiting Yobbo. I have also seen a Yobbo or 2 arrive on the forum but leaves just as quick normally, one way or another. As for the Yobbo at GreenS, I have seen and heard many come to think of it. They can also be found in caravan parks too but not as many.

I reckon GV Water will eventually turn it into a "Day Use Only" area.

We called in during October on our way to somewhere else, to use the dump point, it was pretty much deserted compared to what it once was.

Cleaverville beach camping was once a similar spot for 'long termers' in WA which now has restricted stays & imposed fees during the main tourist season. Not somewhere I've stayed, but was very popular with a similar vibe to that often reported from Greens Lake.

There are no exceptions!

Local towns will lose out on much needed income.
