I can't recall the details but when I was quite young I remember there being ongoing trouble caused by local teenage boys (what's new?) in the area I lived. It got out of hand and finally the local men took to the streets for a few nights and sorted it all out... with fists no doubt... after that there was no more trouble.
In the final analysis a society, just like a family, has to police itself and enforce the rules of what it considers to be right or wrong and I don't think in the history of mankind anyone ever thought teenage boys were the right people to do this.

Retirement should be all about relaxing & enjoying one's latter years.
Why go to Alice Springs, how about a chill out trip to the Ukraine that'd be fun.
A few years ago we dodged a bullet near Bourke at May's Bend.
Camped there for a few days, three days after we departed "they" came out & stole everything & torched cars.
What we don't understand is why the Outback Experience/Visitors Centre send people out there to camp when it happens on a sporadic basis.

You cant really do the trip through the centre as simple as it may be on the bitumen without going to Alice Springs. I agree, I would not go there at the moment. In fact I found some of the community quite disturbing when I was there for approx 6 weeks 6 years ago.
Your mention of Mays Bend only reinforces that there are similar problems all over Australia, well at least on the central and eastern side.
I cant comment on WA as I have not been there nor do we hear much of any bad news stories. Maybe they dont want to air dirty washing for all to see.

Have lived and worked in the Alice on two occassions for more than 6mths each time, back in 1987 and 2014.
Fantastic place, love it and the area, these problems have always existed sadly although it appears to be bad/ worse at the moment.
Do I have any answers to the problems, nope, and can I suggest it will probably be just the same in the next 10-20 years time.
Don't "not go" just because of these problems just take care when there, keep your eyes wide open and use some common sense when out and about
Cheers
To all those posting with some form of possible solution or sympathy towards this ridiculously OUT OF CONTROL SITUATION, you are clearly delusional if you think any of your altruistic comments will make any difference.
The biggest laugh is when our "FIFO" Prime Minister (bless his little heart) pays a political visit to Alice Springs purely for political reasons.
All that and he is pushing for a Second Voice for one group in our great country. The rest of us will just have one voice, go figure.

Hi all, I think I will close this now. Just a quick reminder that political discussions are not allowed as, in our experience, they always lead to bad feelings.
