I've gone off Roger, his ego is far too big for his own good. To re record a classic/iconic album like Dark Side Of The Moon to his liking is nothing but pure ego.
Waters may have been the main song writer, but with out the musical skills of Gilmour, Wright and Mason...the songs would never had a life. Being in a band is a team effort....not I'm better than you, because I'm a creative genius that writes the songs.
I dont agree with Polly Sampson being a vocal critic of Waters....better if she and David maintained a dignified silence.
Only one word to describe pink floyd music, awesome.
Ain't that the truth. Real music. Black Sabbath, Uriah Heep, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and the like that will last forever. Shortly about 50 of my friends from late 60s and early 70s are having a huge reunion, in the bush, with lots of beer and a huge number of songs from that era. Because of the isolation those songs will be played at the same high volume they were played waaaay back. Looking forward to that! Cheers
Pink Floyd remain unique & incomparable. I like most of their music, but prefer the earlier stuff. Only saw them play once (At Knebworth Festival). Loved Syd - still play his solo stuff now then - wife hates it.
Who's Polly Sampson?

Ta. I guess I'm somewhat out of touch. Will leave them to their ongoing spat & just enjoy the Floyd music I like. Hadn't even heard of Division Bell album! In fact I can't recall listening to any Floyd later than 'Wish You Were Here'.
Shane,
I have to agree with you, Waters is a bighead. I love Pink Floyd Music and the other band members are good blokes but Waters is a bigheaded racist.
Cheers,
Roy.

Agree that the other groups named were fantastic, they weren't depressing like Pink Floyd were.
Love the Birmingham bands like Black Sabbath & Judas Priest.
Duran Duran used to practice in my uncles garage before they became famous.
My cousins play guitar like myself, my son & my grandson.
I played Eric Clapton & Stevie Ray Vaughan's Fender Stratocaster guitars at the London Hard Rock Cafe.
I also have great photos of myself sitting on Jimi Hendrix's couch with one of his guitars
Your reunion sounds like fun, enjoy!

I find listening to Pink Floyd a rather depressing experience.
I think that if someone was experiencing depression, listening to their songs would push that person over the edge.
I wonder how many people were killed by Leonard Cohen.
I've never heard anything by him, he's not my style.
Ironically, the first time I encountered Leonard Cohen was in my early adulthood when I heard a parody by the Hebeegeebees ("Bird of Peace" medley on "439 Golden Greats").
BTW, I've always been a fan of Eric Clapton's music, but just yesterday I came across his vile racist spew in Wikipedia:

"Tears in Heaven" will never sound the same again, no matter how hard I try to separate the man from the music.

The racist attitude is out of character for Eric, he's spent his whole life worshipping traditional black American blues artists & trying to get them appreciated by the masses.
He's played with a lot of the surviving ones like BB King & Buddy Guy.

Someone once said to me that alcohol doesn't change your character, it just amplifies it. Perhaps he was comfortable with black people as long as they weren't living in his country.

He gave up alcohol 30 years ago. Getting back to Pink Floyd, one member of the band suffered with a mental illness I think?

From what I've been reading about Barrett, his mental problems may have been self inflicted. He had a long history of drug abuse.
He was considered to have schizophrenia, probably triggered by over indulgence of LSD. An old friend, long dead, also suffered with schizophrenia & got to know Syd at a Cambridge psychiatric institution.
