After this tragic event is it about time that all bottleshops and pubs drive throughs, close by 8pm or have 2 or more staff in attendance at all times.
I think alcohol sales in NT, should stop across the board at 6pm, and if gets bad as it is in the NT across the board so be it, it then should be the same for the rest of OZ
We could just board up the retail outlet and prevent this type of attack from happening there again or maybe we should all put our *big boy responsible pants* on and put into place actions that will actually fix the problem.
According to some reports on print media this was the third refusal of service on the alleged perpetrators on that day. It appears from reading the available details that the group drove around Darwin trying to buy alcohol until the time got close to closing and possibly this is when desperation set in for these perpetrators.
It appears to me that this repeated display of violence by young teenagers is just becoming acceptable in our country. Why, we might ask?.
Because there is no penalty.
In a modern free society we should be able to buy alcohol when the outlet is open and suggestions of closing outlets to prevent violence toward staff is ludicrous.
In times gone by I worked for a company whose adopted motto was;
It not racist. There is plenty of white collar crime.
Financial scams, offshore money laundering, onshore gambling laundering with Australian registered companies. Insider trading. Superannuation laundering schemes. Destroying & killing people which have infinitely more value than a few bottles.

Many of us are getting old and many of us have worked with both indigenous and non indigenous people.
I know I have and I have found that generally in the work place there is a complete acceptance of all folk provided they are doing their allocated tasks. This is the same in our communities.
The constant calling of racism is from the group of so called hard done by indigenous that are too lazy or too influenced by drugs and alcohol to actually go and get a job. This problem of false representation is compounded by that group of do gooding woke folk that encourage this call of racism if for no other reason than just to create more antagonism. The word Racism is very powerful.
Maybe those do gooding woke folk might be better employed actually helping those people in need from all walks of life including black white and coloured people and cease the divisive practice of pitching the disadvantaged coloured indigenous against all others including the young 19 year old worker who lost his life by just going to work and being forced to encounter a person who had no respect at all for human life.
Someone encouraged an impressionable young teenager to take anothers life because that teenager was told he was entitled to do that due to the situation was not going to his plan.
Just let that sink in before anyone decides to stand arm in arm in a protest and shout references of Racism when good folk are just expecting all Australians to obey our laws.
The very word Racism has now been used to the detriment of all who want to help, to the detriment of the authority of our police forces and to the detriment of the judgments handed down by our courts of law.
As I said in another topic, racism wont go away when the term is said the way it is to provide powerful support to one side only of a very two sided argument.
Is it racist to mention that the alleged perpetrators were indigenous?
Most certainly it isn't. Just confirms what many would have assumed as these youngsters are out of control.
Recently I stopped in a small country town in WA, planning to stay a day or two, but moved on when the owner of the local supermarket and takeaway advised NOT to stay in the local free camp if I wanted my car and van left undamaged. Said drunken/drugged youths would smash windows etc and steal anything not tied down.
Not much scares me, but in this case I moved 30km out of town and into the bush. Too old now to fight a bunch of drunken youths.
Too much free-money, too many "rights" and no responsibilities are the problem, aided by all sorts of city-based do-gooders making sure that there are no repercussions for this behaviour. "Don't be a naughty boy Johnny, or I'll have to scold you again". Spare me. Not too many "Cheers" here.

In my OP I did not mention the race either involved, it was more about how booze is the problem.
Surely in modern Australia where the is a problem, State governments should have the guts to vary the licencing hours to help contol problem.
Having lived in the NT in the 80's it was a problem then and it still remains.
Oh the Police union are going to love this idea, isnt it time in these hot spot that instead of filling offices with frontline officers shining their backsides on chairs, a quarter of the force should be on duty out in the beat, and that includes the senior ranks.
With modern technology sitting behind a desk is a waste of time.
The last thread that had people asking people to justify their reasoning was deleted. Is this your goal?
Not at all, I would hope that if the reasoning were polite, respectful & within the forum rules that there would be no reason whatsoever for a thread to be deleted.
My question remains.
Your choice as to whether to answer will, I'm sure, be determined by whether you think you can do so within the forum expectations for posting behaviour.
I am not a fan of thread deletions as a means of moderation as nobody learns anything from that.
I would rather that threads were closed & the reason for a thread closure remained on view, perhaps with moderator comments as to the reason for the closure, this I believe aids the development of 'self-moderation' & an environment where folk can disagree in respectful ways - & which I think encourages participation.
I do however understand that it can sometimes be necessary for forum owners to delete material posted sometimes to mitigate the risk of them having to face legal issues by letting unsavoury material remain. That is an area where sadly, I think it wise for forum owners to 'play it safe'.
Do you know my cultural background?
Once again, Im not going to get into a discussion that could bring out some replies that may or may not be relevant.
There is a lot to be done with youth crime, the largest representation in the youth crime in these areas are indigenous.
