I am not a supporter of Israel & the position they take against the Palestinians, but I am not not anti Jew.
I see no difference between football fans flying a Israeli flag in support of one of their team's new player, any more than I would an Aboriginal flag, a Scottish flag, a Palestinian flag or indeed a rainbow flag. I think the issue here is a poor understanding of the issues by the AFL.

Thats a bit silly, you can be catholic and eat meat on fridays and good friday and not fish, this is not about Harry its about showing support for a young Jewish man playing football for the Kangaroos

Whether (or how) Harry Sheezel practices the Jewish religion or not is his business, & his alone. Any questioning of his religiosity is quite inappropriate in the circumstances.
Basically if he was born into a Jewish family then he is Jewish regardless of whether he practices his religion or not.
The argument about whether or not an Israeli flag should have been used by a young boy to show support for a fellow Jew has absolutely nothing to do with how Harry Sheezel should or should not practice his nominal religion, in fact it has nothing to do with religion at all.
It has to do with someone supporting one of their own.
The only anti flag waving argument which has any potential validity is one along the lines of of Israel not being recognised as a country, with the right to have it's own flag. But here in Australia & across most of the non Arab world Israel is recognised as a state with it's own flag, making it as legitimate for the young supporter to wave as any other recognised flag.
I would understand the Israeli flag being seen as inappropriate on the grounds of it being seen by Palestinians as the flag of an occupying force, but I would still support their right for the flag to be waved, just as I would for supporters of a Ukranian or Russian player to fly their flags. That said, if flag flying is considered likely to provoke partisan violence, then I consider it reasonable on the grounds of public safety to proscribe the flying of flags when circumstances dictate. That was not the case at the footy with this Israeli flag.
Really the issue (in this thread) highlights the linking between the Jewish religion & a Jewish state, in that all Israelis are Jewish, but not all Jews are Israeli, but do (if I have this correct) have a right to become Israeli.
Biblical quotations in the context of this thread have only served to show a poor understanding of what it is to be Jewish. Quotations from the Quran would be similarly inappropriate if a new young player were Muslim & a Palestinian Flag were waved.
As I said earlier in the thread "I think the issue here is a poor understanding of the issues by the AFL". ...... something I suspect the AFL itself recognises & is thus choosing a 'blanket' approach in place of a more necessarily complex 'understanding' approach.

Did they have 7 day weeks back when someone came up with the Exodus story? The Julian calandar came in about 45 BC and the Gregorian calandar was installed in 1582. Those calandars are now something like 14 days out of sync. in the Gregorian calendar, Sunday is considered the first day of the week. If the AFL wants to go Woke, maybe they should think about whay day to hold matches on.
