Yes some great cricket last night, the game is very evenly balanced at the moment, if the Aussie can get rid of Roots, Bairstow and Stokes cheaply it will help. Some of the fastest bowing seen for a few years, he is quick Wood. Will be watching up until lunch tonight, then bed, off tomorrow early, heading north for some warmer weather.......hopefully Basher Ps: grammar police, find someone else to annoy as I will be a bit quieter while on the road, didvI say annoy!, I meant bore
Surely youre not letting yourself be annoyed by simple things like being corrected when youre wrong? Many would be appreciative of the help offered, but it seems that others simply take offence, and have no interest in speaking properlee Inglish. Cest la vie. Enjoy your travels. Cheers.
Meant to mention Stokes cheating. When it happened I said "You have got a bl**dy hide". Spirit of the game indeed. I reckon 99.9% of the time a player knows they have snicked one, touched the boundary etc. He would have known for sure. That was a very bad look and they have the hide to accuse us and heckle the players relentlessly. I hope we beat this pack of ^*&%%$# 5 - 0.
As DMaxer said, batting no 3 is difficult, takes a special player who can take on different situations. Brook ave about 24 at 3 and 40 something at 5/6. He is not a no 3, some of the shots he plays make him a doubtful 5/6 at that level? The old rule always was you batted your best man at 3. Root should be 3, he proved that last night.
That's OK, as long as the pommies keep making super dumb decisions like Brook at 3, Bairstow going walkabout and keep picking him when he wouldn't catch a cold in Alaska - fine, gives us a shot at 5 - 0.
I have NEVER been a Stokes fan, even less so now. I think he is full of it. At least Marsh can score all round the ground, Stokes 84% over cow corner nearly. Hope Ronald McDonald and the overpaid lazy crew in the box have got a strategy for Stokes tonight. Pretty straightforward tactics I reckon. Rule no 1. Never bowl to a batsmans strength.
Oh, by the way, I am STILL a batsman, and always was, I don't go for all this woke "batter" stuff, that goes on my fish - beer batter.
Stokes only needs 3 more wickets and about 30 more runs to join Sir Garfield Sobers and Jacques Kalisz on 6000 runs and 200 wickets.
He also needs a couple more catches for 100 test catches.
He is very good. He speaks highly of you.
Stokes maybe a very good cricketer but he should learn not to take the moral high ground because he is a dismal failure in that particular exercise, the hypocrite.
No need to get personal DMaxer? Bad form. One from the Bairstow sledging book. Not a Stokes fan, hoping he will break down and we don't have to put up with him anymore. Had enough of Bairstow too, he has a hide to sledge Smith as he is a player and keeper of very low ability. To me England are a team of thugs and their supporters in the stands and members rooms are not much better. I look forward to Aussie holding up the ashes because that will really hurt the team of thugs and their bad sport supporters.
Why would you want to see a sports person injured. If he is as hopeless and over rated as you suggest then one of the sandpaper boys should be able to get his wicket pretty cheaply. Likewise, if Bairstow is a dud, then wouldn't you want to keep him in the team for the same reason?
As for criticising the behaviour of the Poms and their supporters do you really feel you are coming from a position of strength.
Remind me again what happened at Newlands in 2018.
As I said before, I am an Aussie and support most of our teams but not this one. I hope they get flogged. Little Davey doesn't have to worry about failing. He and Smith own the team and can end other people's career in an instance with a little bit of memory recall.
He was acquitted Kebbin.
He came to the aid of a person being attacked.
But hang on. There was something in the media so that must be the correct version.
Hate to say it but I think we are goners tonight. Reckon we are looking at 2 - 1 after only a few hours play. Of course the whingers have to overcome Cummins but I think our only real chance lies in Boland. Though he will probably need some heavy cloud cover, if sunny they will probably belt him on his consistent line as they try to do to him. I think Boland is the bees knees, no $&^% in him like Stokes, Bairstow, Robinson and friends. I play golf with the father and grandfather of one of Aust top fast bowlers. His grandfather was saying last night his grandson is great mates with Boland and Boland and his wife put a break in their honeymoon to attend his fast bowling partners wedding. Apparently he is a real top shelf, quiet decent bloke.
It is a shame that Mr half dozen (per match) Warner and a few of the other Aussies don't take a leaf out of Boland's book and just let the ball and bat do the talking.
Not a fan of Warner, not as badly as for Stokes tho and I know they won't drop him for the next test but I would like to see Khawaja, Head, Labuschagne (had to google the spelling so good 'ol Basher's grammar police don't get me too), Smith, Marsh, Green. I think there are even grounds for Carey to come in at 6 before Green if they could tie Carey's hands up every time he attempts that ridiculous reverse sweep.
Gotta sign off, more later, got one I have a mini share in trained by Annabel Neasham going round in race 3.
Too many people on here that seem to think its ok to post untrue stories as a fact, they then get snappy when someone reminds them that they are WRONG! Try posting facts or at least the whole story, not what suits your ideas, maybe then you won't cop the flack Basher
15 minutes before the start of play day 4. Looks overcast and good bowling conditions. Hoping and praying Mr Boland can produce one of those brilliant spells he is known for and hit the spot with one coming and and one seaming away and he gets a four or five-for cheaply. At least the conditions with some shine still on the ball will give is a shot at them. Hoping we can win it but looks a difficult task, still think the poms will win but have all the snacks ready for the start of play
Its going to be tough , we need early wickets, real quick.
Listening on the radio, camped up at ****burn on the SA/ NSW border.
Need auto elec tomorrow in BH
Basher
Congratulations to the Poms a great finish to the Test match by all, but I'm certain they won't stop whinging. They could only finish 2nd & 3rd in their home Silverstone Grand Prix with a Rookie Aussie in 4th & the Arrogant but hugely talented Max Verstappen winning his 8th F1 GP this year and two 2nd's.
Hurting this morning but was on the cards I guess. The ball didn't move much didn't help. I can't understand Cummins tactics sometimes. I don't know where bowling at the stumps disappeared from cricket? Opens up LBW, bowled, caught behind, Ist slip. I just don't get this short pitched bowling constantly, can be very expensive way to buy a wicket.
The Aussie team selection for the next match will be interesting, what do you do with a fit Green, Warner the Bunny and Cummins really gave the offie no chance in game 3 by not bowling him when he should and giving him the haggot in the most difficult of circumstances.
Hey Basher, hope your sparkie issues get sorted.
Great game all the way through. Whether you like them or not, the Poms are real fighters. I thought they would be in trouble when Stokes went but the fight back from Brooks and Woakes and then Wood saved them.
I had a look at the long rang forecast for Manchester and it is rain forecast for each day. The Old Trafford test is always the one that is rain affected. If that results in a draw then it is allor nothing at the Oval.
The Poms need to bring in Foakes as they can't afford to keep dropping the chances the Aussie top order give them. I guess they will also bring back Anderson given it is his home ground.
I get a bit tired of the press labelling the Poms as whingers. The players have said nothing with the exception of Root who stated that Bairstow was not seeking an advantage and Stoakes who said he would not have attempted that dismissal. The whinging and complaining has come from the press and supporters so you can't blame the players for that.
Yes, Bairstow has to go, he had a 2/10 game with bat and gloves. One wonders though if he is a protected species like Warner. I saw Bairstow sitting behind the coach and captain in their ears in the closing stages last night. One suspects he is another Warner type to keep his spot on reputation only. I would like to see Green in Warners spot, he plays straight and is a good leaver of the ball. Couldn't hurt, couldn't go any worse than Warner. But if it looks like a few days of rain and a likely draw may as leave Warner there for the entertainment factor for us and Broad.
Poor old Aussies can't even get a haircut over there without being castigated!!!
$59 for a haircut. They reckon the inflation is bad over there. Wonder what they would charge me for a search fee??
At least the 'ol shampoo budget has decreased as the years take their toll
Yes. The hide of that barber expecting an important person like Head to pay. Just his name alone deserves a freebie.
I thought is was allegedly Alex Carey, not Travis Head, and Alistair Cook, the ex English captain, later acknowledged it wasnt true. Or did I miss something?

Chaos, mayhem, confusion. Good my job here is done
You are probably right, The Heaths. Just ridiculous reporting in any event. I was more concerned about RMoor stating that our off break bowler was given a haggot. Surely he meant aggot but one never knows these days, does one. (Google it for a giggle)
Don't tell me I have had it wrong all these years???
One of my favourite gee ups when a quicky beat with the bat with a good 'un was "Good haggot mate"
Good on 'em. They changed the meaning on me in the interim like so many other words that have taken on a new mantle due to the woke and the yuppies.
That top shelf charging hairdresser, he should have shut his trap, cash only, attract the tax office like a fly to a............
Or, for want of a better term, attract a Broad to a Warner. Maybe Warner should change his name by deed poll to Walker.
Havent heard that one rmoor. An aggot is a rock like marble however.
Cant understand how Murphy only got a couple of overs. I think that may well be the last we see of Boland though.
