Well wikicamps is no good anymore, so eventually we will go back to the old way I am guessing, and I m guilty of doing this myself, pointing people to the wiki instead of being friendlier, so I apologise to everyone whom has been on the receiving end of one of my wiki replies.
Yep. I subscribed to Wiki Camps several months ago after it getting a major wrap from a friend. Then I couldn't access it again and after reading all of the comments recently don't intend to go back to it. I believe it has been bought out by a big mob. To me that is always a death knell. A big mob (U.K.) bought out one of my software providers and it took 12 hours to load and kept me up all night (I rely on this for part of my income). So today I am going to commence running a parallel with an Australian provider. Sorry, I digress.
I find this site excellent and it is my daily goto for information, entertainment and interaction. As I am now homebound due to severe health issues I am finding the interaction on this site invaluable. Bought a new ute and an old Roadstar and in coming months will be finding some isolated sites to spend much time on the road I hope and I am looking forward to many tips and advice from the likes of Possum3 etc which I am finding invaluable.
A mate tipped me into looking at Hat Head and it looks an excellent isolated destination for self (immunity issues). Does anyone have any advice on camping or accommodation spots there please?
In eight years of using Wikicamps I have never had an issue with it, however I must quantify that I only use the app on Android devices.
As for the windows 10/11 app, because I have never bothered downloading it I have no idea of its performace, although I find some apps for windows V the android version there windows ones are sometimes inferior even though they made by the same vendor.
Hi ,your quite right `plaintruth` our NZ forum has over 13,000 members ,but the same ole few (couple dozen at most)posting regularly.
A few new ones join just to pick your brains, usually about something thats been done to death before but they can`t be bothered to look through past posts . Never to come on again most of them .
I expect Google and crapbook is now there go to place for info, people see no importance of honest first hand advice from years of practical experiance . Way of the world mate .
Anyway ,Enjoy your day . Andy .
The real problem is people are too stupid or too lazy to pad out their 5-word request (actually, nearly always expressed as an order) with a tiny bit of info about their requirements, or about their rig, of even roughly the area they are looking at. (I'm heading from Sydney to Broome so hit me with some free camps) not even a please or thank you.
So point them to wikicamps and let them do some basic research for themselves. If they can't afford $8.99 let them stay at home.
It isn't that the responders are being less helpful, but more that others are becoming too entitled, lazy, and demanding.
Wiki Camps is still too slow. Is this me? Would it help if they culled some of the older and perhaps incorrect and irrelevant pictures and posts? Maybe all those photos of feet with a posed bottle of wine and glass.lol
I hear you about the unrelated photos about their feet and wine, I guess it's them just wanting to share their wonderful time with us. Something that is often missing is a photo of the access road, particularly when it's borderline 4WD conditions.
I find WikiCamps very useful and have discovered several gems through them. They're certainly a lot more up to date than the hard copy equivalents.
When it comes to fridge problems if they dont give at least the model i dont bother to answer. Usually the question is just its an engel or waeco & its not working or not cooling, whats the problem?? Its actually getting to the point of not repairing portable fridges. They are not all that expensive any more, & i pick them up in the scrap yard sometimes with easy repairs.
