Another price increase & reduced size & failed packaging

Dairy Farmers pure cream was typically $5.10 for 600ml in cardboard container, convenient & easy to pour. Packaging was design genius.

Now $5.50 for 500ml in a plastic container which is miserable to pour.

Hung, drawn & quartered comes to mind!

Marketing gurus have been devising ways to give less product for more money for years - Go back to Colgate in the 70's by increasing hole in tube, customers used more because they applied a similar length onto the toothbrush.

I do agree that there are infinitely worse issues in the world, but really. Another backwards step or three!

What's that saying... 'A death by a thousand cuts'

I sent an email to Dairy Farmers. Maybe next week I will send a physical copy in the mail to the CEO. Done that before with other companies.

Dear Dairy Farmers. Your design team has completely failed on the new 500ml plastic packaging.

A post I made on a forum which clearly states my thoughts on your revised product:

'Another price increase & reduced size & failed packaging (topic title)

Dairy Farmers pure cream was typically $5.10 for 600ml in cardboard container, convenient & easy to pour. Packaging was design genius.

Now $5.50 for 500ml in a plastic container which is miserable to pour.

It would be appreciated if you could Hang, draw & quarter your design team.

Yours sincerely, Jonathan.

Please feel free to phone me on 0417 xxx xxx to further discuss your design failure.

I realize that Whenarewethere's concerns are; reduced product amount, increased price and diminished pouring convenience. However, the real surprise for me is that Dairy Farmers has changed their packaging from paper to plastic, which is exactly opposite to what seems to be currently underway in our society.

Ah, but in a year or two they will be able to announce their new eco friendly carboard packaging. Now in two sizes .... one smaller, one larger, but no longer with rounded numbers for the contents ... so it is not easy to mentally compare prices with others brands or each other. Maybe 280ml and 530ml or something like that.

My main gripe was the packaging. The cardboard packaging was brilliant.

Poured brilliantly. Once initially open could be reopen one handed.

When closed the packaging would seal.

Then some f...wit comes up with a packaging failure on every level that I can think of.

Probably cost millions setting up new production machinery.

Another recent product was Madelines sold in Woolworths. No where new as good as proper ones in France... but bearable.

The packaging had 11 then they redesigned the packaging to 8.

Basically the same price.

Also always check your receipts. About 1 in 3 there is a price discrepancy. Often I photograph the shelf price, saves me work.

Some shops you get the product for free (first one of multiple purchases).

At the very least I enjoy grinding the system down. In other words costs them more money due to managerial failure. I am in all support for the poor worker. Anything to stick my finger up failed management.

One wonders how bad the rip-offs with packaging and product reduction can get?
After a heavy dosage of cortisone for a while my weight went haywire, so went of chocolates, sugary drinks etc.
A few weeks ago Tim Tam's were on special so I thought I would break out for some luxury comfort food.
The PLASTIC inner section put a gap between biscuits almost as big as the Tim Tam's themselves!!!
So promised self, never another Tim Tam again for me - banned for life.

Lotus biscuits in Coles on special this week. $3.60, normally $4.50.

Used to be $2.00, then with further discounts. Sometimes as low as 50% off.

Same weight, nothing else has changed.

The above prices are indicative of the overall cost of living. Utility bills, Council rates, insurance, plumbing repairs.

I feel sorry for people not swimming in cash.

Have you thought about whats causing these price increases, lets start with a biodiversity tax on Australian farmers and the heavy road user tax is up an extra 6% every year for the next 3 years, thanks Grim Jim.

Farmers, Maunfacturing and almost every other employer passes on the wage and super increases, add to that red tape that pushes up the unit cost

And the biggest peanut from the peanut farm is blackout Bowens renewable power fallacy, the power might be cheap but the infastructure, transmission and stupid back hand salutes to the wind, solar and batteries manufacturers is killing everyone, not very much of that stuff is made locally, watch the money trail to China.

Went through it all before in the 90s, I was a lucky one to keep my job, but nevertheless saw the endless excuses for 6 monthly price increase. Wish I kept some of the letters sent to customers. Brilliant sayings of just how much price increases would benefit everyone downstream.
