it was not that long ago the road toll was counted at over 1000 per year, automobiles have increased in numbers but with added safety features, seat belts now compulsory, baby seats/capsules compulsory, improvements in roads, plenty of drug and alcohol testing but still can't eliminate human/mechanical error yet.

some what misleading as it doesn't specify cause of death . no doubt some may have been self inflicted as a result of the robo debt fiasco did see a couple stories of suicides as a result of robo debt on the TV an would think there are others we have not heard about.
Deverall1, that title really fits your post. Please show where it says the deaths can be attributed to Robodebt notices, or even correlated. They are not suicides, in fact no details on cause of death are noted. And how about this snippet from that article:
"This was more than ten times lower than the overall death rate for all of the department's customers during the same period, which was 3.64 per cent".
In fact, 2030 deaths (from all causes) out of 900,000 notices sent out is 0.23% (article says 0.21%), which is one sixteenth the overall death rate for the department's customers. In that 28 month period how many were old age related, road deaths, etc? A far greater percentage of road deaths are in the younger age group. Perhaps that explains it. The article specifically says such detailes are not known.
ABC does it again with inuendo but zero useful facts.
Perhaps you could use the statistics to show that receiving a robodebt letter improved chances of living by a factor of sixteen.

So much abuse was heaped on the previous government, even though they do sholder the ultimate responsibility. They we lied to by senior public servents about the legality of robodebt and other critical infomation, The first head to roll was the new head AUKUS who was on $900,000, and was the previous head of centerlink during robodebt has been stoodown without pay.
Its funny but the origional planners of Robodebt were ministers in the Rudd/Gillard/Rudd era, but that information has gone to ground.
we were solving the problem of a rising road toll, then it got sidelined to robo debt an a bit of illegal government activity now we are being told that the government that got the blame, it was not even their idea!

You cannot reduce the amount of "stupid" in the community.

if cars of the future are all driven by computers (AI) the hoons will be out of business, all vehicles speed limited to posted speed limits unless they can hack into the computers and override them and i'm sure that will have some form of safeguard

the technology is there to limit speed on our roads i have seen warehouses that can control the speed of fork lifts in restricted/high risk areas as soon as a forklift enters a specified area the speed is reduced by some unseen computer, the fork lifts are operated by a chipped card that identifies the operator tracks the forklift by gps. some have even gone as far as to eliminate the forklift operator and one console operator programs numerous machines to do many tasks . at some point this technology may become part of our domestic transport needs. might be a bit hard to picture back in the 50/60's that it by the 2000's most of us would be walking around with a computer more complex than the ones they used to put a man on the moon in our pockets, remember DICK TRACY and his futuristic wrist radio
We have in Manly CBD (Sydney) 30kph for a few years now. You still see cars who drive over a footpath misjudging a turn into a side street & pedestrians still oblivious to cars.
