RE: The medicine's mystery

I take your point about the negative side of structural changes - much like automated self checkouts in supermarkets taking jobs away. Not good.

The industrial revolution (vs everything handmade),

Self-service stores (finding and selecting products oneself),

Self-service petrol outlets,

The internet (how many redundancies resulted?),

Directory assistance (for obtaining phone numbers),

Phone books (how many jobs did production & distribution generate?),

(largely) Automated vehicle manufacture / assembly,

Online banking,

Advanced progress towards becoming a cashless society (how many cash transportation jobs lost?),

Online government department transactions (e.g. licence and vehicle reg renewals),

Online purchasing of consumer products,

Online purchasing of groceries,

Driverless taxis,

And now, AI that produces intellectual content.

I like automated self checkouts in supermarkets. Rarely do I have to wait to pay for my purchases and leave the store.

The lyrics of Sharon O'Neills song, 'Maxine', come to mind:-

You're not the only one

To take the whole world on

But no one's ever won

Just like everything else the Govt does, changes things before they have decided what replaces it. ie. Jan 24 TBD.  They don't know what they will change it to, but they will decide after it is in place.

A date has been chosen, a 12 month anniversary of the Jan 23 rise previous rise & they have said the rise at that time will be 'in line with the consumer price index (CPI)'.

What more can you ask?

Evasion of the issue. Nothing concrete. Why in line with CPI? The $275 number bit really hard. Not doing that one again.

I don't know what you expect?

If The Government stated what the increase would be a year in advance they would be criticised if the increase were more than the CPI. What other organisations advise folk of what their price increases will be a year ahead?

I'm not being evasive, how could I when we both have the same info. The government isn't being evasive, if that were the case they wouldn't tell you about what they plan re the CPI.

Why in line with the CPI, because it makes sense & is consistent with most government fees & benefits which are regularly increased in line with the CPI.

No idea what the @$275 you are talking about is? Or what you won't do again.

You have a very short memory. $275 electricity price decrease. A Year? Less than 6 months you mean. Didn't say anything about you being evasive. Although you argue like you have taken a page out of Albo's book Argue off point as much as you like. I'm not going to engage. Was expecting a decent discussion.

Just FYI - I don't have the short memory you think I have. You have made an incorrect assumption in order to write a retaliatory response without justification, at least as far as I can see.

Even though electricity prices have nothing to do with what we were discussing, I know nothing about the $275 price decrease you refer to. Why would I? As a result of our travels we hadn't had an electricity bill (or  regular news/TV) for 5 years until 3 months ago.  Got our 2nd bill this week. $303.70 for 3 months, but during that time we received a $250 power bill rebate from the Vic Government.

I cannot determine how or why you consider I was arguing off point.  I  referenced only the issues from that 'costs' table, because I could not (& still cannot) understand any logic behind your accusations toward the government. There is no evidence in what has been posted to suggest that the government will not determine the next PBS price increase until after the date of the increase. There is no reason to believe that the price wont be determined before January 1st, just as it was previously (as far as I know).
