Keyboard warriors are always brave, perhaps you need some soothing "face time"...I've got lot's of spare time.

I hope you include yourself in the " key board warrior" category.

Cuppa so I suppose you are a pacifist, a greenie and a multitude of other names the fit the lefty agenda.

I also support the right to protest as long as it does not prevent other citizens going about their lives.

Warmongering  a strong word for trying to prevent the oppression of people, Korean war was communist Nth Korea backed by the Chinese to oppress the free people of St Korea into a communist reunified state, peace has never been declared hence the DMZ to stop fighting breaking out again compare the 2 Korea's today.

Vietnam was a similar engagement, again China backed Nth Vietnam aggression to take over Sth Vietnam, ultimately the Nth won because the political masters of the coalition prevented the allied forces from completing their mission by appeasement to North thus enabling viet cong and NVA regulars to infiltrate into the south build up strength while they were sitting at the peace table in Paris.

Gulf War 1 due to Iraq's invasion of Kuwait, again politicians prevented the troops from completing the job appeasing Saddam Hussein because he was against Iran.

Gulf War 2 was initiated under the pretext of WMDs, although they used chemical weapons on Kurds and Shiites, this time the job was completed getting rid of a dictatorship.

Afghanistan whilst the intent was to free oppressed people it failed because the political doves, and the impossible mission was too complex which could be a forever war, become untenable, but the ultimate withdrawal was botched  due similar concession that was given to the Taliban just like nth Vietnam.

Almost every conflict Australia has participated in, has been on humanitarian reasons.

China is the most aggressive 2 faced despots who cannot be trusted. You only need to look at Hong Kong and we all know who's next.

Here endeth the lesson.

Lastly BRS is a War Hero no evidence has been properly proven he was a war criminal, even the judge inhis deformation case, could not suggest he was, just muckraking lefty media telling fabricating mistruths.

Very well put Gundog. Not surprised there has not been a response. Especially from those that have never served.

Not "Living in the past" but I did live in the past, was brought up on military bases around the world including Germany 1961 to 1963, a very interesting time that included the Cuban missile crisis and the building of the Berlin wall. Also Aden and the Suez problems. Joined the military myself in January 1972 and served until August !998, worked on several defence contracts after that.

Would be happy to share a beer with many here around the camp fire, others may find themselves sitting in the fire.

Substitute "Australia" for "America" and ponder the message.

Many ungratateful, ignorant people around. No Cheers here.

Those on here who are involved in the discussion, and have had active service in theatres of war,  would almost without exception, be veterans from Vietnam, and possibly a very odd one or two with Korean experience.

That does not diminish their service, or contributions of others who never saw active service, but lets not get emotive as in the way of the post above this.

I doubt anyone here served in the Pacific, African or European theatres of war in 1939-1945.

RSL NSW president Ray James apologises to Vietnam War veterans for post-war treatment:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-08-14/rsl-nsw-apologies-vietnam-war-veterans-treatment/102726786

The president of the New South Wales Returned and Services League (RSL) is issuing a formal apology to veterans who were criticised and shunned by the organisation upon their return from the Vietnam War.

Ray James, also a Vietnam War veteran, said their sub-branch or club initially rejected many who fought in the conflict due to the belief they didn't fight in "a real war".
