The "Anonymous" Grey Nomads

Rather curious, I find, how many Grey Nomads do not identify by First Name on this Forum and choose to remain "Anonymous" behind Avatars and Pseudonyms. I tend to seek a First Name when responding to posts, but hey, I may be old school.

Hi Dick0,
How are you any less anonymous than me? How is anyone to know if Richard really is your name?
Why would you not use your full name? Perhaps your address & telephone number & email address too? ( I don't advise it)

Me, I call myself by the name that most folk I know call me & have called me for decades. Face to face I answer to it just as I answer to the name I was christened with.

Cheers
Cuppa.

Sure Cuppa, I hear you. You have your reasons for not identifying by First Name.

Those here who know me do know my First Name, so, I can always be referred to as my First Name if they wish. Either/Or it's all the same to me.

I know some years back there was a discussion on identity theft on this forum which may have changed how some identified themselves. Just a thought.

RE: The "Anonymous" Grey Nomads

I think using our forum names give us more individuality and makes us more identifiable from post to post. Mine and Mrs Landy's real names are both in my profile if anybody wishes to use them.

Imagine trying to follow a lively thread if two or more of the participants had the same first name.

Landy ( Dave )

Many years ago in another life, we were advised to never provide the crims with anything that could identify us. We had our names removed from the electrol roll, nothing in the ph book (which we had to pay a fee) etc rtc. I've continued this into retirement and will never show anything that could I'd me. These days it's even worse with cybercrime So I will continue to 'hide' from everyone

I use my real name in all the other forums I participate in. However, I wish I had not done so.

These days I go out to bat for people who have lost everything. In doing so, I show them how to help themselves in a way which costs them nothing or close to nothing. In many instances this necessitates divulging information which is either not public, or is closely guarded by the professionals. By sticking my head above the parapet, I have now become a target for stalkers, one of whom sends threats to my email address, and another who is a stooge of a major US company. This stooge follows me around in the forums using several different personas in an attempt to pass himself off as a team. Needless to say, these people resent the fact that I help those unfortunate souls whom they wish to exploit.

Whether people identify or not is not the issue, the routine linguistic input by some highlights how low their gutter is.

This is all about a First Name and NOT posting personal identity details.

So does 'Cuppa' count in your book, given that it is what friends & and family call me...... or do you have a reason for your preference for a legal or Christian name?

What difference would it make to you if I were to reveal my christian name to you? Not that I think it would be difficult to find by a determined 'digger'.

I have been known online as Cuppa across all sites of the internet I have frequented for close on 25 years, in addition to face to face. In these days of 'multiple online identities I have a degree of pride in that consistency.

If I were to have my first name legally changed to Cuppa, would that somehow make a difference to you? I suspect not.

Bottom line is that I am Cuppa, & what you see is what you get. It would be no different if I called myself Richard, Fred or Joe ..... other than you may be more likely to assume that they were my legal first name, moreso than you might Cuppa.

Yes, 'Cuppa' counts in my book because it is your preference and choice. It makes no difference to me Cuppa whether anybody uses their pseudonym or First Name. I do see, however, many Grey Nomads posting to others by their First Names. Each his own.

In my case "Possum" is a name I have been called since I was a Lad a long, long time ago.

The AKA was an attempt to have a go at bureaucracy with regards to how different ethnicities are treated by Govt Depts.
