Avid golfer..

A young man who was also an avid golfer found himself with a few hours to spare one afternoon.
He figured if he hurried and played very fast, he could get in 9 holes before he had to head home.
Just as he was about to tee off, an old gentleman shuffled onto the tee and asked if he could accompany the young man as he was golfing alone.
Not being able to say no, he allowed the old gent to join him.
To his surprise the old man played fairly quickly.
He didnt hit the ball far, but plodded along consistently and didnt waste much time.
Finally, they reached the 9th fairway and the young man found himself with a tough shot.
There was a large pine tree right in front of his ball and it was directly between his ball and the green.
After several minutes of debating how to hit the shot the old man finally said, You know, when I was your age Id hit the ball right over that tree.
With that challenge placed before him, the youngster swung hard, hit the ball up, right smack into the top of the tree trunk and it thudded back on the ground not a foot from where it had originally lay.
The old man offered one more comment, Of course, when I was your age that pine tree was only 3 feet tall.

Hey Paul.
That joke is actually a true story.
It was Don Bradman and Dean Jones playing a round of golf.
On one par 4 dogleg, the Don mentioned on the tee he used to hit one over the trees onto the green.
So Dean Jones tried it, it rattled into the trees and of course the same punch line ensued!!!

I once sat talking to the late Jack Fingleton and W.A. (Bill) Brown. Mr Fingleton told me he and W.A. Brown were not out at lunch on the first day of a Sheffield Shield match at the SCG and word quickly spread "The Don" was in next, when they came out again after lunch there were 20,000 spectators, soon after, 40,000. After a while they started to slow handclap as they had enough of Brown and Fingleton not out 100+ each. Brown walked up to Jack and said, we better get a move on Jack, we are on "Bradman Time". Fingleton was out soon after and it attracted a massive roar from the crowd and he received and a loud standing ovation as he trudged off.
Then he said the roar Bradman got as he hit the turf was 10 times loader than his.

Sorry Paul, just twigged I told you a lie.
I had an old piece of paper with Jack Fingleton's autograph, Bill O'Reilly, Frank Tyson, Richie Benaud and a few others on it. I took it along to the meeting and asked Mr Brown to add his monika. He said "I will sign next to my old mate Jack".
My faded memory tells me Jack Fingleton had passed on by then.
So, it was Bill Brown relating that one, not Jack Fingleton.
Apologies.

Don Bradman was 53 years older than Dean Jones.
