Given that EV battery fires burn at between 2000C and 2500C can you imagine what may have happened if, instead of the cement truck just making it over the Westgate bridge, it caught fire halfway across it? and what about the traffic jam behind the truck, all those people stuck down wind from the fire unable to get back off the bridge?
I've read there is only 100mm of asphalt between the vehicle surface and structural steel on the Westgate bridge. In the Luton carpark fire where the entire carpark collapsed the reinforcing steel only needed to reach 600C before it failed leading to a total structure collapse. What if the truck got stuck somewhere on the bridge and burned for hours leading to a partial or full collapse of a bridge span??
