I never have really understood what the word woke means. It originated in the south of the USA when there were issues about statues of former slave owners being removed from public view but how does that relate to thinking a date not inclusive of everyone not right.

The correct adjectival form of "wake" is "awake", not "woke". "Woke" was always a verb until some idiot with a placard turned the language upside down.
It's "I'm awake to the injustices in society", not "I'm woke to the injustices in society". Even just writing the word makes me feel stupid.
Just in case it wasn't clear, I recognise the injustices, but I detest the term that is used to refer to them.
Maybe some people should do some research on why Australia Day is on the 26th. Heres a copy pasta.
Captain Cook did not arrive in Australia on the 26th of January
....... (and another 800 words that do not mention why 26 January was originally chosen) .....
Neither of the words "settlement" or "colony" nor various derivations of those words appear in that text. So it does not mention the real reason 26 January is celebrated. The events in later years followed the same date. The settlement or colonisation was the beginning, and later events marked that day.
The French were here before that date... maybe the day could have been called "Fête de l'Australie" . Asian traders well before that. But none if them established a colony.
The British settlement was estblished by Captain Phillip as per his orders some 7 months earlier. Establishment of the colony was the whole purpose of the mission, and that was achieved on 26 January. Any other date becomes secondary. That date is what has been chosen to be remembered because it marks the beginning of what Australia has become. Australian nationality in 1949 as mentioned in the text by Rod just followed the same date.
Straying a bit far from cricket and the Jokes section.

The Australian open tennis is far more entertaining.
Djokovic out, beaten by Sinner, Medvedev outplayed Zverev, made a great comeback after being down 2-1 to win the match.
Absolutely. The final match between Sinner and Medvedev was brilliant. I tuned in late when Sinner was down 1 set and about to lose the second. Sinner turned it around to win the next 3 sets and the match and the tournament. Edge of seat sort of stuff.
