Has, anyone noticed the latest attempts of the Banking System/Governments (Not sure where this is coming from) to lable us. Surely it is a case of discrimination.
I recently received a communication from my bank advising me that I am eligible for a new type of account. That I did not have to do anything, it was automatic but I could opt out if I wished by talking about it to the bank.
The change was a change of name to the account and the assertion that I would have an account that I couldn't overdraw and it didn't charge fees. The account I have already has these facilities. I haven't paid account keeping fees on this account for years. All I have to do to avoid this is deposit $2000 per month. That proviso is covered by my pension payment. Even so $3 a month fees is not going to break me. and I would never go into overdraft.
This acount is not being discontinued it will still be open to "normal" clients.
They want to change the account to XXXXXXX XXXXXX Concession Account.
I thought that I would do a bit of looking around to see whats on offer by the other banks. They are much the same just different wording. Special Accounts for those still going to school, those buying homes, those 18+ over 55, and the one that really shocked my was one for Migrants. So its mostly the same for all banks (large well known ones anyway) No point changing.
This in effect could be used to discriminate against a certain demography. Though I didn't notice one like "Truck Driver" as in Canada.
Anyway, my bank at the moment is saying that they are going to change my account regardless and that I really can't opt out.

Hmm, I thought it was now illegal for banks to open accounts/credit cards in your name and without your authorisation.
And thats fine Gundog. So have I. But it does'n"t tell everyone that I am on a pension. Just that I'm old and anyone can see that.
I also don't use the funds in my over 55 account as my everyday account. It has no cards and is only available via funds transfer to my an everyday account. Its a savings account.
Anyhow, they have also advised me that I am also eligible to change that to a concession account in the near future as well.
I might be eligible but without the ability to contact them to refuse that makes it mandatory. They will not communicate to discuss. Even my contact at the local banch can do nothing (or so he says) as this is a Head Office directive.
Looks like you need to go to head office late in the afternoon to get answers. I used to do this to collect cheques from customers owing money.
Often had to wait til 9, 10 or 11pm. Once almost over Christmas & New Year. I would have waited.
Always be very polite, even if they threaten you with the police. I always got a cheque in the end.
Tips. Have reading material, water & a bit of food. The goal is to cost them more than the funds they are holding than the irritation that they can't go home.
Makes greater "public relations" advertising!

Whenarewethere, Don't you think it is a bit strange that a national company would implement an action saying that the action is optional, and then remove access to opt out and where even their local representatives have no knowledge and cannot help their customers?
Don't you ask yourself at least, what is happening here?
Camping out at headquarters would not help. You would not come across anyone who is able to help you.

The waiting on premises I was advised working for one on Australia's largest companie's lawyers & international rotating lawyers to fine tune their legal skills world wide. Did it many times. Very effective. But always be totally polite, & nevertheless firm. Never once failed to get a cheque.
Years later I working for a tiny company & put my skills into action. Got all cheques for all monies owing. My boss couldn't believe it. Skills learnt from large companies have many values.
Always stand you ground & always be polite... 'I have no problem waiting until you can give me the cheque'.
Unfortunately it does take time but anything is better than nothing. Also used to remove goods from said companies which were still identifiable as the products which we supplied.
There is a long list of recoverable items but the company does need experienced lawyers who can get on top of things instantly & workers (me) who can get on site very quickly & truck driver to remove product asap.

The American Heritage Dictionary defines a Walter Mitty as "an ordinary, often ineffectual person who indulges in fantastic daydreams of personal triumphs".
The issue is, decisions are being made and we have to comply whether we like it or not.
If it was a matter that affected our security or safety then OK.
But its about ordering our data so that it can be analysed and reported on. We are rapidly losing our autonomy and losing our freedoms.
