Those people who put their faith in the Ten Commandments have never actually read them, or understood them. In two of the commandments, which God hands down to Moses, he implicitly condones slavery. Essentially it's OK to have slaves as long as you give them a day off on the weekend. And of course you should not covet your neighbour's slaves, because they are his property.

"Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife or his slaves, or his animals, or anything of thy neighbour."
"Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labour, and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. In it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy."
The word, "servant" is properly translated as "slave" (as told to me by a Hebrew scholar). Also, if you read the text immediately after the commandments, you'll see just how the Israelites treated their "servants".

The Bible is the greatest work of fiction ever written. Unfortunately it is also full of contradictions and anomaly's, possibly because it was (reputably) written by many people with differing views on it's content
With regards to the ten commandments I recall the Jewish guy who once said that originally there were twelve commandments but Moses beat him down to ten.

That was the good news. The bad news is that adultery's still in.

613!! Looks like the nanny state has been in existence a lot longer than we thought, and here's me thinking it was started here in Vic some four years ago.

The way I heard it, Moses was pretty old when he was (allegedly) handed some 20 or so commandments. He was not strong enough to carry that many so halved the load, intending to go back and grab the rest later. But, as happens as we get on, he firstly forgot where he had left the other ten, then he found himself in the kitchen, struggling to remember why he had walked in there.

As I said before ,your avatar certainly suits you,the Devil cracked the whip when he chose that for you.
The funny thing about the Lord's Prayer, at least the ecumenical version, is that it is disrespectful to God.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done ... For thine is the kingdom, ...
For some inexplicable reason, people believe that they are being more reverent by using archaic English when translating the Bible. In many languages, such as German and Slavic languages, the plural form of a pronoun is used when addressing an elder or an unfamilar person. Similarly, the British monarch refers to himself or herself as "we". Yet "thy" and "thine" are the singular forms of the pronoun, which is how you would address someone of similar standing to yourself.

PT, your religious views are well known and I respect them, but when you resort to personal attacks because someone does not share your views you lose that respect. As for the Devil choosing my signature (not my avatar) I found that hilarious to say the least. The reference to Lucifer was just a very old saying and was put there as just that, a saying nothing more. The idea that I am in cahoots with a non-existent being is, quite frankly, laughable.
Defend your position by all means but, resorting to this sort of response only goes to show that you are on shaky ground. I can only assume that when you wrote that it was the result of a brain fade. Never mind, we have all had them a one time or another.
Have a nice day.

Yes Peter, and it is still going on around the world. Very sad state of affairs to think that, in 2024 after two major wars and the slaughter of millions, we still can't get it right.
