When I heard on TV that the gunshots were added accidently I figured that was one of the weakest mistruths I have ever heard.

The current government is attempting to outlaw "misinformation". Well, the first place to start may well be old Aunty.
Many people I speak to tell me they have switched off from the ABC and watch it no more, due to the long standing bias and rubbish they pedal out.

May be time for a budget cut - easy, get rid of the ABC.

Also, why is it some in this country wish to crucify those who dedicate their lives to our DEFENCE forces?

I am currently reading a book - Great Australian World War Stories. In recent years I have taken great interest in my late father's (he would have been 100 last week) locations in WWII (Milne Bay, Borneo, Moratai etc) and reading of some of the atrocities committed upon our POW's, our nurses and the bloodthirsty bayonetting of POW's and "slaves" etc is demoralising. Yet some in Australia wish to crucify our own???

There was a discussion on that very topic after golf yesterday.
There was a 100% consensus of switched off ABC ex-viewers.

Mind you, mostly all farmers or retired off the land and they have very little love and some very direct opinions on the ABC and ABC buddies.

Fisk is on tonight, followed by Plum, which so far is a bit of a disappointment. Reckon it would take an earthquake to keep me from watching Fisk.
The ABC are masters of some comedy and the likes of Landline etc (keen to listen to today's lettuce story ha ha).

It is just a shame their news and current affairs are so Red.
Maybe we could export them all to one of those awful warring counties far north of us

Don't think Ita did much good either, at the end of the day the ABC perform about as well as Australia Post....

Dear oh dear.

When presenting a scenario such as the one concerned, there are often pieces of video from different sources. These come from the various on-lookers each recording what they see.

So the reporter writes up a script. Gives it to a video editor -says to use video from x, y and z phones. Editor puts together the various bits and and one sees the action as seen from various viewpoints. The sound is carried across too. If it wan;t the thing would not give the sense of being real. Each shot (in this case) matches where in the piece of vision the single shot was fired. The pressure would be on to get the story out A.S.A.P.

If, on the other hand, the sound is repeated on the one piece of vision, i.e, a single bit of vision but several sound repeats (shots), that is a gross error, but possibly not the reporter's fault. Video editors can be very young - just out of school nearly. Young people often learn the basics while doing their high-school studies. They have to learn to not "colour the story", while doing their best to illustrate it. This then points to not enough funding to provide sufficient training, or supervision.

All networks find themselves in this under-funded basket.

I gave up on the ABC a few years back and now only tune in to watch the odd program. I listen to the cricket and NRL on ABC radio and still enjoy them.

Unfortunately, the ABC is usually influenced by which particular affiliation has control of the board. In the past, the left had a pretty good hold but that changed when Ita took over. The worst programs are the ones that deal with current politics. The one on Sunday morning is stacked and hosted by former Murdoch employees who spend the entire program interviewing opposition members as if they were some sort of government in exile. It is live to air and I remember one momentous slip when the dopey host was interviewing an opposition member after the last election and slipped up by saying "I think we might lose that seat". Hardly unbiased or neutral reporting.

Anyway, it should be defunded. Keep the rural and sport aspects and punt the rest.

Perhaps this is one government-owned investment that the Government should float the ABC via the Share Market.
With an I.P.O. offering. (Initial Public Offering)

An IPO, or initial public offering, is the term for the first time that a private company (in this case our Government) sells shares of its stock to the public on a stock exchange. The event means that the company has transitioned from private to public ownership, which is why an IPO is often referred to as "going public."

Then they would receive heaps of $$$$ plus save about one billion dollars a year.
Although I am against what the governments of the day did by selling the farm eg:- Telstra CBA etc perhaps this is one good or bad product to offload.
Mind you I would not get involved in this I.P.O as it would have to stand on its own base to encourage investors and sponsors. But who knows???

If the ABC became commercial, I would have nothing left to watch. Commercial TV is mind-numbing, ad infested garbage.

One thing that sets the ABC apart from the rest is Media Watch. Although I didn't see it, I can bet that the ABC's error featured prominently on this program.

My understanding is that SBS is 80% funded by tax payers. They have to find the rest. Maybe that could be a start with our lefty ABC.

You would need to use the term "Reality" very loosely. a more apt term would be visual diarrhea.

We have a friend who works in the programming dept of one of the commercial stations here in Melbourne. These so called "reality" shows are scripted down to the last word.

Dorian's comment above says it all. I did not know that over two million viewers watched MAFS but I am not surprised. The more folks that watch it means more of it will be produced.We are constantly being fed this rubbish and have the added imposition of having to sit through interminable ads most of which would appear to be created by 10yr olds.

In our house anything that is of interest on commercial TV is recorded and the "breaks" get the fast forward treatment. Now I will admit that the ABC is left leaning in it's current affairs and news departments, that is fair comment but, defunding? They do a good job in other areas and provide an alternative to the rubbish served up elsewhere. They have had to fight for every penny from the government, both political persuasions, for as long as I can remember hence the programmes that they used to have are now starting to appear on the commercials because they cannot afford to buy them.

I havent really watched free to air TV for years we have been getting Foxtel through Telstra since 2000. 2 months ago I bought a new smart TV pre set for streaming. With my old TV I had to use a chromecast with an ipad to watch things like Netflix. We had a Telstra package that included Foxtel and unlimited NBN data, land line etc. which was costing us $230/mth and they said that it was about to go up again. With the continual price increases, the addition of more and more adds mainly online sports betting, dropping the only channels that I watched reguarly, genuine news channels turned into politcal opinion channels. shows and movies constantly rerun and then asking you to pay extra for anything newer, after 24 years I finally said enough. I changed to a Telstra unlimited data plan with the highest NBN speed possible for our area for $109/mth then I subscribed to all the free to air TV streaming services $0/mth, Prime Video (add free) $13/mth, Netflix no adds HD $18/mth, Apple TV $13/mth, Disney $12/mth (discounted for paying for a yr). I also had Kayo Sports for the months free trial but with no NRL in the off season there wasnt much else I wanted to watch so I dropped it (probably add it again when the new season starts) $35/mth. We already had Netflix so even with Kayo that total was $50/mth less than what we were paying for our previous package and we have 10x more content to watch. The best thing is my wife has her own smart TV in another room which is also set up for streaming, I had Foxtel on mine but she only had the free to air channels plus Netflix on hers now we both have access to everything as a subscription cost covers both - Foxtel wanted something ridiculous to have a 2nd connection.. Providing you own a decent TV and have access to unlimited data you can stream as little or as much as you like Foxtel and free to air TV are no longer the only 2 options that people have. The technology of the Foxtel IQ2 box I had was so old that they didnt even bother sending someone to collect it or pay the postage for me to send it back to them. The first month of most of the subscription streaming services is free so if you dont like whats on you just unsubscribe you are not locked into them you can turn them off anythime as long as you do it before the start of the next month. Not sure the ABC free to air live TV would sit that high on my list of things to watch but along with the SBS they sometimes have some things on their streaming services that are interesting.
