So let's assume for a moment that you do encounter one, do you want to go down in the hall of fame for killing the only ever identified specimen? Maybe two darts get fired (enough to bring down a bull you said), and the much smaller yowie succumbs due to overdose. Or worse, gets shot in self defence. You would make world headlines and I doubt the vibes would be very positive.

Maybe you encounter a hermit living in the bush and you get charged with murder.

Very good point. As they say, what could go wrong.

I also gave that some thought in the last few days.
If they are humanoid, is it murder or manslaughter?

There is also the question of intent.
Personally, I can understand the need to arm for defence, it is natural to do so.
Though better to be armed with a camera here than a weapon?
The good result here is - don't get to locate one!!!!

I lost my shooters licence 30 years ago.
As the magistrate said - if I was industrious enough to manage to put seven bullets in a six shot rifle I meant business......

Intent is no doubt an important component of the law.
I was lucky, the recidivist targets also got to tell their side of the story.

Very valid points. A cryptid is not recognised as an animal. BC has the intent to go shoot one either with a camera or a weapon. The law is not grey on this, it is clear. Hunting cryptids with guns in Australia is a fast way to get in trouble with the law. Giving someone with mental health issues access to weapons, on its own is an offence. Let alone stupid. Some people with PTSD use it as some form of badge of honour. BC you are so hyped up on this, you are likely to shoot anything that moves with your mind telling you its a yowie. Big chance of this whole episode ending badly. Rethink it. Leave the weapons at home and substitute with bear spray. Google it.

Oh, I do agree with you there... They are definitely NOT DUMB.....

The people believing in them, on the other hand... Well, let's just say that the case is close...

I don't believe you do drugs, at least not now, not anymore... I mean, it seems that you no longer need them... Hey, not sure if you are ready for it, but I have a bridge for sale..

Thanks for the good story. It was fun...

PS.

We may still be able to have some fun...

And you know they have survived over 150.000 years, because???

Your turn...

I refer back to my earlier comment re: reckon there is a possibility ancient populations could have existed in remote areas over time.

Look at the Sentinelese tribe on the remote island off India.

They have survived as a remote aggressive population in their current environment virtually unchanged for 60,000 years?
Why is it so? Is it not possible other populations of peoples could survive in friendly natural environments over a long period of time.

In the animal world, there are many species that have been unchanged over many years, the ancient and continuing story of the crocodile for instance.
Basically the same highly effective killing machine apex predator for millions of years.

Were there populations of Yowie like creatures and pygmies that have been possibly killed off over time? By the invading species of Africans and then the Munda speakers of India that eventually evolved into the Australian aborigines who allegedly killed off an existing pygmy population.

Were Yowies and pygmys the original inhabitants and a few big fellas survived in remote locations?

I am open to the belief a few existed and made it through to recent times? Physical proof would be handy for the pro argument though !!!!

I won't be the shooter he knows this, hence my weapons have been temporarily surrendered, which I willingly offered them up including my Federal D Class Exemption license and same NSW license. I am the first one ever to surrender my license in this local area for PTSD.  Plus it is a requirement of your license, and it should be also your motorvehicle license, including for depression but they haven't enforced that yet. But they are contemplating it.

Secondly we will not shoot unless their is no other alternative.

Thirdly in relation to getting tranq. darts and the blow gun, we both remove  wildlife from around OZ, for mining projects predominately, it is a sideline business we are good at it, and we know exactly how much tranq. to give per approx. weight of animal. We are also licensed to do this so getting the tranq.s is easy.

This is an expedition to try and find them, we will try not to put ourselves or the humanoids at risk, and will vacate the area asap if it looks like if any action will go south. Then we are out of there. We have set up an extraction group of 3 people in various vehicles to come in and get us quickly if need be, plus we are only be  using Cobb and Co tracks, which are not in the National parks nearby, I have an almost period map of the entire area.

We are not doing this in a dumb way, we have been planning it for a fair while, but you will be the last people to see the fotos if we get them, because of the reception I have gotten here, I will send @rmoor them first.

Finally you can't get bear spray in oz legally no one can, it would be nice, but no, plus we are not breaking an laws in doing this, we have checked withe police hence why it will be a winter expedition instead as less like to encounter people out there.. Average temps overnite in the area in winter are -3 to 0 C.

Now people on here are thinking I am a lose cannon, but if I was a lose cannon, I doubt, I would be have been working for the Strategic Defence Unit, heading up the Perceived Threats unit up until a month ago, for 16 of the last 32 years. I am not going to breach the Secrets Act here, but the lose cannons you should look out for are running the country.

My team hit %78 correct analysis, on average every year for the last 7 years, prior to that we were in the vicinity of %69 on average. This is a very high correct analysis mark to get right most of the time. It is not our fault that our bosses don't/didn't listen to us, but now they are. We are finished, we quit and the country and the citizens an ungrateful bunch are on their own.

So I think it might be time for me to leave this forum though, their are a lot of trolls here, maybe 3 of 4 not so, but the rest your are not worth my spit.

It is a shame.

I was under the impression in this country we (used) to enjoy freedom of speech and our own (religious) beliefs......

Problem here RIC is if you're going to spin a yarn you need a good memory. Maybe go back and reread your posts here and on other forums under multiple user names. Couple of years ago you were shooting wallabies with a bow and arrow to survive (wikicamps post). Because you were disabled and couldn't get a pension, now you're the head of Strategic Defence Unit, heading up the Perceived Threats unit with millions of dollars and many kgs of gold bullion (caravanners forum post).just an example.

The situation is quite clear, and has been for some time.

I don't think it's useful, and may be harmful, to poke at this issue any longer.

It would be best if this series of threads were closed.

I concur BBN. If the situation with regards to this thread is not clear to folks other than the original poster, then it ought to be. Further discussion on this subject is not necessary.

OK. Fair enough. End of the thread.

I am disappointed though, that another regular poster on this site has now deleted their profile and left.....
Fair call, there was significant doubt about the existence of the subject that he raised.
He believed in it though and I think that is reasonable.
My stance on it - I don't know, how can we know without firm proof.
Bit poor though that this gentleman has been hounded off this site and faced criticism for what he strongly believed in.

We supposedly still have freedom of speech in this country, although it is slowly being torn down by minority groups forcing their beliefs onto the rest of us.
This may also partly account for some unusual political polling going on in Australia in recent times.
The history of our world tells us it is a weird and extraordinary place.
I believe in some instances some fascinating animals or beings may have survived in pockets.
Some may have been a fallacy, something mistaken for a more fanciful existence?

I don't believe in aliens, but I am open minded for a few strange events on our own planet.

What it did though was to prompt me into some research on the topic and I reckon I am now wiser for it.
Maybe there are/were no Yowies, Bigfoot or Sasquatch, but many years ago there were many other weird creatures about.
How many more were there that all proof of existence was wiped out that we don't know of?

Some of my research opened my eyes and educated me a little bit :

"I saw a fill clip by bigfoot hunters trying to prove that if bigfoot dies, there will not be remains to be found.
The test was to stack out a 300lb deer to see how long the body would last. The high-speed camera showed that 300Lb deer was gone in less than 30 days, so there were no fossils or remains if they were not buried. Imagine, a body 6 feet down a Million years. It would be in a museum, not buried, gone in less than 30 days. This is the astonishing rarity of fossils, a testament to the marvel of their preservation."

"There are several species of Australopithecus (which means southern ape man) and who was a distant ancestor of ours. Here is what you get when you Google your question: Australopithecus afarensis had both ape and human characteristics: members of this species had apelike face proportions (a flat nose, a strongly projecting lower jaw) and braincase (with a small brain, usually less than 500 cubic centimeters -- about 1/3 the size of a modern human brain), and long, strong arms with curved fingers . It is known that they did walk upright but also, probably, probably, climbed into trees."

So, in conclusion, is it possible all remains of an old species were never left in existence if they were not trapped in mud or preserved in some way?

Thanks, happy to see the thread closed, but I still remain open-minded on evolution of the species, any species.

I totally disagree. The world would be a much better place if everyone called out BS when they see it. There is enough BS around already. Where has it led us. If youre going to post BS, get ready to be called out or STFU.

There were signs that BC needed a sympathetic ear. I feel that a bit of tact was warranted, too.

Are you saying that a poster with mental health issues, who refuses to take medication, who is planning to arm himself should be encouraged to go hunting? Spare me. There are too many judges, social workers and parole boards that dont take a firm hand and are enablers of brutal crimes. Let alone governments who let terrorist sympathisers back into the country. Australia is sick of it and recent polls show their reactions

There you go again, putting words into my mouth. All I'm asking is that we exercise compassion when dealing with those people who are struggling with personal health issues, whether they be mental or physical.

Or we could just brutalise them like these two pigs:

What those police did was disgusting. I would never condone that behaviour. The Richmond Report recommendations were a huge mistake. At least one mongrel cop got three years gaol. More to come with Tom Starling.

Well, I suppose we should be very proud. I'm sure we must have a member living in the New England area who could have possibly reached out. Pop in to have a yarn and make sure all is OK. But no. BC honestly believes in what he experienced but it was mostly rubbished by those who know everything.

There are millions living on this planet that have a very strong belief in a primitive superstition. Call them out and  it's Islamiphobia or antisemetism or heresy or whatever. I think that the superstition is BS and will happily discuss it with anyone. I won't however try to ram it down anyone's throat and nor was Bicyclecamper. He was just telling a yarn that he believes.

It would be nice to see some compassion around here.Cheers,Ben.

Here is just another yarn.

The Cadbury Old Gold advertisement featuring crocodiles pays homage to the brand's founder, MacPherson Robertson. The commercial humorously portrays the historic Australian confectioner "bargaining his way across croc-infested waters" to bring his rich, dark chocolate to the country, highlighting the brand's "bold in every bite" motto.
