Silverside in the Eco Pot
(Preview)
Hi all, we recently bought the Eco Pot after a demo at a camping show. I thought I would try it out at home before the 'real thing'. The recipe and, I remember, at the demo stated 30 mins simmer post boil then 3 hours in the Eco Pot. I did this but my meat was nowhere near cooked. It was stiffened but not cooked....

I was fishing for Barra on the Ord river earlier this year staying at Hairy Dog Harman's camp. Our last night there he said tonight we'll have crispy skin barra. We did and it was wonderful. I never thought of finding out then. I like to try it if someone knows or has a recipe.

Ecopot or any thermal cooker inner pots
(Preview)
I am thinking of getting an Ecopot. They are on sale on TVSN for $250 which includes an extras pack. Has anyone used the inner pots of a thermal cooker as everyday saucepans? I wonder if they are tough enough to withstand daily use. Would make the thermal cooker more versatile.

Portable Convection oven
(Preview)
If, like many caravans, yours does not have a built in oven there is a great alternative if you are longing for a delicious home cooked roast whilst on the road. We appreciate the lack of having no oven in our van because the space is taken up by storage drawers that are much more beneficial for us. But we a...

Most used item
(Preview)
Thought it would be interesting to find out what your most used item is. Mine is enamel pie dishes. I use them on the bbq to keep food warm, I use them at home to keep food warm. I store food in them. Heat leftovers in them and even make puddings in them - the list goes on. Happy camping

South African Potjie Pots
(Preview)
As a camp oven cook I am increasingly using the South African Potjie Pot. Due to the rounded shape of the bottom, they require less heat than a flat bottom camp oven. They are particularly good for wet dishes like a stew or curry. Once simmering they need few coals under. The South Africans tend to have a...

Puppy Dog Pie

While watching an English real estate show on Foxtel, I noted that the presenters called into a pub in the Cotswalds and had a "puppy dog pie". It looked great, and they gave a walk through of how to make it, so I had a go at it. It had cubed beef- so I used round steak - rolled in flour and browned in...

Burger tip

Just watched a cooking show on 4ME (channel 64) and one of the recipes was the perfect burger. The chef fried the onion in olive oil before adding it to the burger mix. With about a minute to go, he added garlic to fry with the onion because garlic takes less time. Once the cooked onion and garlic cooled, he...

Dutch Ovens

Hi all, In this chilly weather I was contemplating how to make a warming roast when I don't have an oven in the MH - so I though I could take my cast iron dutch oven that takes about 3-4 litres, put a wire trivet in the bottom and then place the meat & veg on that and cook it on the stove top on a low heat. Ditt...
