hi all this may seem a silly question but using a nisson ST 2011 with a 19.6 caravan we dont use cruise control but do use over drive is this ok or are we driving wrong

On a recent trip out west our Ibis Air Conditioner wouldn't heat up in the morning, the fan was blowing cold air. The outside temp was about 3 - 5 deg. Had to resort to the diesel heater. Is this normal in cold conditions ? Thanks Mick
