Toshiba laptop Spacebar won't work

Can anybody shed some light on this. My sons laptop spacebar won't work. I have been all over it and my own looking for an answer. I think something might have been knocked and caused it to stop working but can't work out which button might rectify it. thanks for any advice.

Has anybody upgraded their comp to win7? I am contemplating it as the laptop I have is slowing up, and vista won,t recognise 4 gig of ram. Its either upgrade or get new laptop, and upgrade is cheaper, at about $110.People tell me that win7 is better. What are your views. Thanks, Bill
