Stayed at Texas, Qld, Dumaresq River camp last night - CAW 5 #802 (actually in NSW, the camp) - lots of room, rubbish bin, and available in town, hot showers, dump point and water at the council depot as well Good shopping, two supermarkets etc..

I stayed at the Esk caravan park recently. 26 Hassall St. in Esk. (07) 54242815. Email esk@valleyoflakes.com.au. Unpowered site, for seniors, is $22.oo a night. It is a really lovely spot, managed by Shirley and Bill Steel. Regards. Pipes

am looking for advice concerning a place to stay for a couple of days in early September, have been there previously and not too impressed with CP`s or cost.........free camp ok if safe to leave van unattended for short periods.........comments please.

The showgrounds are closed for renovations until the end of 2012. You can pull over near the Info Centre and Calico Cottage, but it's right on the highway with a lot of trucks going by. It was suggested that we try the hall on the corner of Chadford Street and High Street. It's grassed and there's a toilet...

Dajarra Campground - basic with toilets and showers (cold I think) - donation for power - not flash but servicable. Boulia - Burke River - camp both sides of the river - heaps of room, rubbish bins, couple of K out of town - off Donohue Highway.

This free camp is not advertised in the 6th Edition of Camps book, but is open. Heaps of room, can pull up on concrete, or next to a concrete pad, or somewhere in the bush, or as we have done on the tennis court - at least it is green, unlike the grass. At Normanton - free camp on the north bank of the Norman River - about 2k from town - 1k as the bird flies - free two night permit from Visitors Info Centre - Ranger comes and checks - bit dusty, and bumpy - no facilities. Ok though.

Russel's Camp - on the left coming from the East - not flash - but clean amenities - $17 couple, power, $10 no power. Plenty of room for big rigs. The BP CP in Mr Surprise has advertised the same pricing structure. Has a great bird aviary set up there as well.
